“City Area Expanding” vs “Agriculture Area Decreasing” is the major problem of Bangkok nowadays. So the solution is how to live with old agro area without harming or destroying. These residential unit designed by the concern of the sizing of the ditch in agricultural area. Grey water returned to the ditch for watering and reducing amount of wasted water.

OVERVIEW

0 : The agricultural area which has a specific ditch suit to plant sizes and species

1 : Put the house in beween the trees in order to preserve them

2 : The access path also elevate from the ground which is good for farmer service

SITE Central Region of Thailand is one of the most abundance area of Thailand as most of the area feature marsh and floodplain; However, the need of urban housing in Bangkok and its perimeter area increase as Thai industrial and commercial grow and cause urban sprawling of housing estates into agricultural area. Bang Khun Thian area used to be an agricultural area consist of tangerine and coconut plantation. But once the Kanlapaphruek Road were constructed and connected the area to the new public transportation hub leading to city central business district, the greenery area are being replaced by groups of lowrise housing estate to support the growing number of office workers.

UNIT With increasing population and demand for housing in the city increase, Developing agricultural area into the housing estate district are inevitable; however, instead of using stereotype concrete hardscape housing design and use old canals as their waste water sewage system. To solve this problem “DITCH VILLA utilizes elevated footprint supported by groundlevel pilotis, elevating the building from the earth and allowed to preservation of agricultural farm. The project also feature ecological greywater sanitation. Greywater from showers and sinks flow to constructed wetland that acting as biofilter, reducing pathogens and contamination in the water before flowing into the irrigation ditch to maximize utilization of the water and reduce the amount of wastewater being release into natural water resources.

NETWORK The selected site is in the area consists of tangerine plantations and irrigation ditch network that is likely to be replace by housing estate because of urban sprawling. The existing ditch network acting as both irrigation system and water retention area, usually the networks would be replaced by concreate roads. In “DITCH VILLA will use the parking hub to reduce need for large concreate road and encourage the usage of elevated bicycles path that elevating from the ground level which is the agriculturist service area and allowed preservation of agricultural farm. This project features 2 types of unit and layout to suit with plantation type and water ditch size including 6x6 and 9x9 meters spaces determine by the plant species. The design will preserves every large tree as many as possible to reduce environmental impacts on the site and create housing estate that is floodproof while preserving agriculturist job and bring resident life closer to the nature as well.

REPLICATe There are many agricultural area that have been replaced or destroyed by construction of housing estate district in Bangkok and many cities around the world. Due to increasing population and demand for housing in the city, there are still many agricultural area around Bangkok suburban and perimeter area that are at risk of being destroyed by development of housing district ; However, Ditch Villa model will allow developing housing estate to coexist with the agricultural life and water resource networks, while maximize the utility of daily water usage as well.
