From Paul Robeson &Fats Jenkins to Pop Gates & Puggy Bell to more modern players like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Dean “The Dream” Meminger, Charlie Scott, Jamal Mashburn, Fred Crawford, Pablo Robinson, Bobby Hunter Jerry Harkness and Alfred “Butch” Lee; Harlem seeds have ascended the ranks of Pro sports and all other fields of professional endeavor.

This is where it all began. At the turn of the century in places like the St Christopher Club,and later, on a pro level, on 135th st. & 5th at McMahon’s Text Text Commonwealth Sporting Club,home of the Commons, the very first all Black professional Basketball team.The Commons, who fielded a team with Fats Jenkins, and the one and only Paul Robeson, ruled the roost years before the more famous Harlem Rens achieved dominance. Fittingly this iconic location, that has served as home to generations of Ballers, will serve as the host site to the 1st Annual Real Harlem Basketball Players Reunion Weekend Thursday, April 17, 2014


With a full itinerary of activities including a sit down awards dinner under the stars, a community concert with celebrity entertainers, a tour of the new Harlem, motivational workshops for area youth, basketball clinics, a community wide BBQ , dedicated Church services, an organized breakfast on both Saturday and Sunday, a Saturday social dancing event, and a ending reception, this will be an event to both enjoy and remember. The weekend of July 25 through 27, 2014 promises to be a weekend one could only dream about. Harlemites in from all around celebrating of a game they all played and enjoyed during their youth. As of today we have commitments from over 200 ex players, including quite a few very famous people, returning to their Harlem roots from all over the world for a weekend long celebration. By July we expect the number in attendance, including community members, to be over 3000 to 5000 people at the Friday Night event including the concert under the stars. Thursday, April 17, 2014

Whereas: The McMahon Org. has had an undeniable impact on Basketball’s (and indeed Negro League Baseball’s ) inception and Growth in Harlem, RHBP is proposing to present Jesse McMahon a Lifetime Acheivement Award posthumously, for his stellar efforts in sports promotion in Harlem.
