FOUR DIRECTIONS ( HAIKU ) Kneel in and look close, intruders exploit soft rifts in imposing fronts. Green ferns unfurl fronds. Their arched grace reaches out from grey shadows of north. Tendrils dig deeply, morning glories climb columns to praise early sun. Red poppies tap down, climb steps to the south, carpet the portico floor. Roses droop, petals drop, sweet scent cast adrift in late afternoon heat. Nature reveals four moods of tended Earth, vivid without rigid rules.

BRIEF TRANSITION ( HAIKU ) — Old — You keep watch all month, close your lid, your sleepy eye and fall fast to sleep. — New — You play hide and seek. Drops of black ink on shadow tag your place above. — Young — Lit sliver of crust, slice of glow in the night sky, peel back your beauty.
