Excellence in scholarship and character. That’s what Kent Denver School is about. For nearly a century, we’ve defined excellence in college preparatory education, equipping students with the knowledge, wisdom and values they need to pursue full, meaningful, self-determined lives.

Kent Denver is what education should be. Here, education is about deep learning in a committed, caring community. It’s about playful exploration and unleashed potential. It’s about creating a vibrant, nurturing environment for students who are motivated to learn and grow.

At Kent Denver, you’ll find the stimulating curriculum and diverse community that define an exceptional college prep education. Our teachers understand how students learn best, empowering them to cultivate knowledge and develop the insight and discernment that come with wisdom.

Ambitious academics.

Inspiring faculty.

We offer a broad range of courses and independent-study options that foster critical and creative thinking through an immersive, active approach that hooks students on learning. At Kent Denver, academic preparation for college and beyond begins as early as Middle School with a comprehensive seven-year program that gives students an advanced start on their educational journey.

Kent Denver’s 86 teachers are professional educators who are passionate about their work. Their optimism, preparation (most have advanced degrees) and expansive knowledge come together to inspire a lifelong love for learning

“Teaching is an act of hope. At its best, schooling encourages and equips students to not only use their minds well—to think deeply in an informed way and to be independent thinkers who seek out multiple perspectives—but also to take an increasing interest in the ways of the world, to care deeply about something, to act on their convictions, and to be thoughtful and decent human beings who want and know how to make a difference.” Chris Michaud, Faculty

in their students.

For my sophomore Global Politics in the 21st Century history class, I wrote a research paper on corruption in the Mexican government in the midst of the drug cartel crackdown. I was interested in the political view of the violence. I really connected with my topic, especially due to my heritage and my personal connection to Mexico. I’m proud of the way I was able to dig deep and the amount of information I was able to process. Ashley, Class of 2017

Bradley Jackson, Faculty

One of my favorite things to do is read, so starting a new book club was the perfect opportunity to gather with other students and teachers who are passionate about reading. There are so many things in this world that I enjoy— nothing can stop me from pursuing each and every one of them! EmilieAnne, Class of 2017

On the job—Students run the student café, the Kent Denver branch of MidFirst Bank, and lighting and sound for school productions. They also provide campus IT tech support during the summer.

Real play.

What clubs and activities are available? Clubs and activities range from A’Cappella to Young Surgeons. Learn more: kentdenver.org

Kent Denver makes learning a joyful experience. Students learn and grow when they’re given the freedom, time and opportunity to explore, create, compete and have fun both inside and outside the classroom. Along the way, values such as integrity and respect take root.

Celebrating the whole person. We nurture the mind, the body and the spirit. The visual and performing arts take center stage in numerous studios and three theaters. Students can test their mental and physical mettle through 69 athletic teams plus Model UN, speech and debate, mock trial, robotics and math teams.

Gaining perspective.

Giving back.

We believe that it’s OK to experiment and that learning by doing instills lasting lessons. Students can explore their interests in more than 55 clubs and extracurricular activities, and both Middle and Upper School students have the opportunity to travel the world, from Moab to Mongolia.

Helping others is a fact of life at Kent Denver, where each student contributes more than 100 hours of community service during a seven-year Kent Denver education. Faculty and students travel together on service trips, and we’re a partner school of Students Shoulder to Shoulder, a nonprofit organization promoting global citizenship and ethical leadership.

“Traveling to Mongolia in Middle School, I got a feel for the culture. And working on a wildlife reserve with natives and nomads was a great experience to discover just how similar our ecosystems are, even being halfway around the globe.” Jordon, Class of 2018

Connections that matter.

What is the makeup of the Kent Denver community? There are 220 Middle School and 480 Upper School students, and 28% self-identify as ethnically or racially diverse. Learn more: kentdenver.org

Lasting relationships.

Life skills.

With an 8:1 student-teacher ratio, Kent Denver faculty know students personally, including their strengths and areas for growth. Our teachers, coaches and administrators serve as instructors and mentors, and because nearly 100 percent of our students stay at Kent Denver through high school graduation, students have the opportunity to build deep, meaningful friendships with their peers.

Kent Denver doesn’t just prepare students for college; we prepare them for life. We work closely with parents to support and guide students to healthy choices, emphasizing self-care, personal awareness and advocacy. We offer mindfulness training and teach techniques for managing stress, time, relationships and priorities. We even have four full-time professionals dedicated to student health and wellness.

“Having three children experience a Kent Denver education, we’ve appreciated the support of faculty and administrators. During Middle School one of our children struggled with anxiety, but we were supported and encouraged; we all learned some fantastic wellness skills, which led to a wildly successful transition to Upper School. All of our children were empowered to seek out an adult to help them through adversity, whether it was academic or social.” Kelly, Parent

You can’t succeed if your team doesn’t play as one. You can put the pressure on yourself, or you can put your faith in the team. There are a lot of things you can’t control, but that just means you have to try harder for the things you can. Ross, Class of 2017

Where do Kent Denver students go to college? Students in the Class of 2017 matriculated to 74 schools in 31 states, plus Washington D.C., Canada, Scotland, and Switzerland. Learn more: kentdenver.org

Kent Denver was (and still is) far more than just a school to me. It is a community of people who continue to inspire, challenge and support me. Lucy, Class of 2002 (lead recruiting strategist for a national restaurant chain)

They rethink options, reimagine what’s possible and achieve—and often surpass—their own expectations.

Lifelong success. For 100 percent of Kent Denver students, the preferred path includes acceptance to a four-year college or university, and part of their personal growth is discovering the right college fit with guidance from Kent Denver college counselors. Beyond the development of their minds, our children have grown to be thoughtful, caring citizens. Kent Denver really does view its role as more than a school; it’s a community focused on the whole child.” Elisabeth, Parent

I love Kent Denver

because of the campus, the people and friends, the academics, the sports and especially the ability to be encouraged and pushed into being the best self I can be.
