WG-99Brands we love...
With a steadfast commitment to quality and service, Curaden has been a trusted partner to the dental industry for over 50 years.
The brand’s ethos is centred around oral health and prevention with a mission to create a healthier world through organising training for dental professionals and supplying outstanding products that positively impact whole-body health. One of Curaden’s biggest successes is its PerioPlus+ mouthwash range, which is based on its patented Citrox formula.
What is Citrox?
Citrox is a natural bioflavonoid derived from the pith of bitter oranges. These bioflavonoids have a strong, and broad, antibiotic, antifungal, and antiviral effect. The bioflavonoids are produced by plants to protect them against microbial infections. Because we are already adapted to the components of Citrox, almost zero side effects are expected to happen. This makes PerioPlus+ mouthwashes and gels great alcohol-free alternatives to chlorhexidinebased products which can cause unpleasant side effects, including a change in taste.
Curaden mouthwashes still contain chlorhexidine to help kill bacteria and treat gum inflammation and swelling. When used in combination with another organic antibacterial, polylysine, which help the Citrox stick to the gums and teeth, Curaden mouthwashes offer a longer-lasting effect.
Standout products
• PerioPlus+ Forte (0.2% Chlorhexidine)
Strongest mouthwash for short term use and intense healing needs. Includes xylitol for a pleasant taste, protection against caries and ensuring strong teeth. PVP/VA for a highly effective protective film over the teeth, gums and oral mucosa. No alcohol or bleach.
• PerioPlus Balance (0.05% Chlorhexidine)
For maintaining a balanced oral ecosystem and optimal health. Reduces the risk of tooth decay and can improve cleaning results for people with impaired motor skills. PVP/VA for a highly effective protective film over the teeth, gums and oral mucosa. For occasional use. No alcohol or bleach.
• PerioPlus Regenerate (0.09% Chlorhexidine)
For regenerating oral microbiota and promoting the healing of gums. Contains hyaluronic acid and chlorhexidine to prevent plaque and cavities, and to take care of the mouth before and after surgery. Alcohol-free. For occasional use. Contains Hyaluronic Acid.
• PerioPlus+ Focus Gel (0.5% Chlorhexidine)
Strong and precise care for ulcers, inflammation, or injuries in the mouth. Adheres well to the teeth, gums and oral mucosa. Contains Hyaluronic Acid.

Just how good are EdgeEndo files?
The development of nickel titanium (NiTi) files has been one of the biggest advancements in dentistry in recent decades.
Having overtaken traditional stainless-steel files, NiTi files are now easily the most widely used file for root canals thanks to the superior flexibility they provide. But not all NiTi file systems are the same.
In similar fashion to the growth of NiTi files, EdgeEndo has swiftly caught up with established names to become one of the world’s most popular endodontic file brands in little over 10 years.
How has this happened? The key lies in EdgeEndo’s file strength and flexibility.
How strong are they?
As good as NiTi files are, they do come with an increased risk of failure (cyclic fatigue or torsional failure) compared to stainless steel. Cyclic fatigue occurs when the file is rotated continuously in a curved canal by compressive and tensile stresses. Torsional failure occurs when the tip of the file is locked but its shank continues to rotate.
How flexible are they?
Flexibility is the great strength of NiTi files and the reason they surpassed stainless steel in popularity. Superelasticity and shape memory are the two properties that make NiTi files so flexible, but these characteristics can also be enhanced with heat treatment.
Heat-treated NiTi files are extremely flexible with EdgeEndo files capable of achieving 90° canal curvature.
EdgeEndo files work interchangeably with the system and technique you already use to ensure a seamless transition.
Both occurrences can cause the file to exceed its limits of elasticity, deform and eventually separate. The more curved the canal, the greater the chances
To combat this and minimise the chances of failure, many NiTi files are now heat treated to modify and enhance the mechanical properties of the material. The unique heat-treated technology used in EdgeEndo files gives them twice the resistance to cyclic fatigue versus comparable heat-treated files on the market according to a cyclic fatigue test carried out by EdgeEndo.
The full results of the test can be viewed here.
Heat treatment allows flexibility to be maintained in the canal with a lower risk of the alloy bouncing back into shape and putting pressure on the file. Like most NiTi files, EdgeEndo files can be pre-bent to accommodate different canal structures.
Are they compatible with my current system?
Switching to different endodontic files can be off-putting if it requires a completely different technique or the files are not compatible with your current handpieces. This is not the case with EdgeEndo.
All EdgeEndo files, obturators and points work interchangeably with the system and technique you already use to ensure a seamless transition. For example, the EdgeOne Fire system works with the same handpieces operated at the WaveOne Gold parameter and the EdgeTaper Platinum system works with the same handpieces operated at the ProTaper Gold parameter. All EdgeEndo products use the universal ISO handle colour scheme to indicate the size of the file.
What do dentists think?
Several testimonials from dentists who have switched to EdgeEndo files can be viewed here.

More than an O K file
by Laurence BohanWhile the introduction of nickel titanium (NiTi) files has unquestionably revolutionised endodontics in recent decades, one stainless steel instrument that has stood the test of time is the humble K file. K files, or K type files as some of you may know them, remain crucial to achieving successful root canal outcomes. But how can you tell the difference between an OK K file and a file that will help enhance and simplify your endo procedures.
What to look out for
ISO colour coding
To make locating the right file size easier and quicker, it is essential that files have ISO colour coded handles.
Firm grip
Peanut-shaped handles with a textured design are commonly preferred for their tactile feel and positive grip. This can make negotiating canals easier.
Sharpness
Opting for high-quality stainless-steel files from only specialist dental suppliers will help ensure consistently sharp and efficiency cutting.
Durability
The best K files are resistant to fracture and able to adapt to curved root canals.
Silicone stops
Endo stops aid in establishing canal depth and working length of each file. This can save time for the dentist or endodontist.
Price
Once you’ve found a file that meets all the above criteria, one of the most important features has to be price. K files and H files from Supreme Endo are Kent Express own brand products with the potential to delivery year-round savings versus other brands.
As is standard with all our own brand products, all Supreme Endo files come with a money-back guarantee as standard meaning you can send it back if you’re not happy for whatever reason.

Eco-friendly toothbrushes –do patients care?
Why bamboo toothbrushes are so popular
Plastic toothbrushes take hundreds of years to degrade in landfill. Despite this, 99% of all brushes are still made of plastic and billions are discarded by their owners every year. To combat this problem bamboo has become the sustainable material of choice for many manufacturers and end users for these reasons:
• Fully biodegradable: bamboo takes around only 6 months to break down in compost.
• Sustainable: bamboo is self-regenerating as the bamboo plant does not die when cut down, it simply replenishes itself without the need for replanting.
• Wisdom re:new bamboo toothbrushes are made from 100% natural bamboo (handle and head) and 100% plant-based filaments derived from sustainable castor oil plants.

What makes a good dental alginate?
Despite all the different impression materials now on the market, alginate remains the most widely used by dentists. The enduring popularity of dental alginate impressions can be put down to several factors. Chiefly simplicity, affordability and workability. But some alginates can offer additional benefits for both dentist and patient that should be considered prior to purchase.
What to consider
Handling and mixing
Ease of mixing is very important when working with alginate as this will lessen the chances of bubbles forming and the impression being defected.
Of course, the quality of the final impression is also dependent on technique and timing.
For the best results, alginate powder and water must always be mixed in the ratio indicated on the pack by the manufacturer for manual, semi-automatic or automatic mixing.
Dust-free
One of the weaker points of alginate is that it can be messy to work with, certainly in comparison to silicone impression materials.
For a less messy procedure, look out for alginates that are labelled as being dust-free or dustless. Dust-free alginate also means a lesser chance of inhalation.
Affordability
Price is one of the big advantages of alginate and what adds to its overall value. Compared to silicones and polyether, alginate is comfortably the lowest priced on average.
Though it can be worth enquiring about the shelf life of your alginate to minimise the chances of waste, alginate is well known for having a very good lifespan
For a better idea of how much to order and when, a 500g packet of alginate can make around 35 impressions
Taste
To improve patient compliance and overall comfort, choose an alginate that has a neutral taste.
Popular patient-friendly flavours to look out for include peppermint and fruit flavours.
Colour changing
One of the newer advances in alginates is the addition of colour changing. Alginates with colour-changing properties turn from one colour to another to indicate that the mixing time has ended.
For example, DEHP Alginate Colour 500g changes from purple to pink for a handy reminder of when mixing is completed and it’s time for the alginate to be placed in a tray.

Forget everything you know about dental wipes. The new Ultraclean Wipes from Cybertech are designed to eliminate not only bacteria and viruses but several of the issues commonly associated with surface wipes. What issues?
Dental surfaces should be cleaned and disinfected between treating patients and at the beginning and end of each day. When it’s easy to find yourself getting through wipes at a rapid rate.
This situation is made worse designed or packaged in such a way where you cannot avoid pulling out multiple wipes at a time when you only need the one.
To help eradicate this problem, UltraClean Wipes from Cybertech are bigger, thicker and therefore easier to pull out one at a time of a year this can lead to significant savings and less waste.
Can UltraClean wipes be used on all surfaces?
Yes. Because UltraClean wipes are they can effectively be used on all surfaces. This is convenient as some materials in the practice can be damaged when cleaned with alcohol. Surface disinfection with alcohol wipes comes with the following risks:
• Staining and rusting metal (stands, equipment)
• Cracking, hardening and discolouring and vinyl (dental chairs)
• Loss of performance (screens, lenses, lamps)
• Irritation to skin causing itching, redness, drying and cracking.
clean
by Laurence BohanSpectrum of activity
Good quality alcohol-free wipes usually contain a near identical spectrum of activity to that of alcohol-based wipes. This outlines the different viruses and bacteria the wipe can kill or inactivate.
UltraClean wipes are proven to kill a wide range of bacteria, viruses, fungi and yeast.
It is important that any brand of wipe outlines the exact European EN Standards related to spectrum of activity it has been tested to. UltraClean wipes do just this. Successful surface decontamination can only be achieved by closely following the manufacturer’s specifications for use.
How long do UltraClean wipes work?
Traditionally alcohol-free wipes have had a reputation for having longer contact times than alcohol-based wipes. While this is true of some wipes on the market, this is not the case with UltraClean Wipes that provide action in as little as 1 minute against many viruses.
Protecting your purchase
As a Kent Express own brand product, UltraClean wipes come with a free no-quibble money-back as standard.
This means you can test the wipes for yourselves safe in the knowledge that you can return them if you’re at all unsatisfied for any reason.

Practice in confidence with
5 reasons for consistent barrier use
by Laurence BohanDental barriers, or barrier film, play a significant role in the infection control and patient safety protocol of most practices. But not all. Despite helping to maintain a sterile environment and protect patients and dental professionals from infection, some practices continue to neglect this safety measure. Here are 5 good reasons why you shouldn’t.
Patient Safety
Dental barriers help ensure the safety of patients by preventing the transmission of harmful pathogens from one patient to another. This is very important in the context of infectious diseases, such as HIV and hepatitis.
Surface Protection
Dental chairs, lights, and other equipment can be covered with barrier films to prevent contamination from fluids. This helps ensure your surgery remains clean and minimises the chances of infection.
Simple to Use
With its adhesive surface and protective coating, barrier film is easily held in place with minimum effort and easily removed without leaving any mess behind. Most of the products in the Profection dental barrier range are designed to simplify application, for example PF Air-Water Syringe Covers come with pre-cut slits.
Less Chemicals
Dental barriers also help reduce the need to use chemicals to clean surfaces time and time again, which can potentially increase your equipment’s longevity and ensure surfaces such as leather and vinyl retain their original state.
Cost-Effective
Dental barriers can be a cost-effective method for infection control. While there is an initial cost associated with purchasing barrier film products, the time and resources saved on cleaning and sterilisation can end up saving money in the long run.
All Profection dental barriers, and other Profection infection control products, such as helix test strips and sharps containers, come with a 100% money-back guarantee for added peace of mind.

Arjun Singh Spotlight on...
To give you a greater insight into our team we are shining a light on some of our wonderful account managers and marketers. Up this month is account manager, Arjun Singh.
Arjun is my account manager and provides an excellent service, the prices are very competitive and deliveries are always on time.
Marlborough Dental Centre - Ilfracombe, UK
“Account Manager Arjun, or Arj as we all know him, has been an essential part of the Kent Express sales team since joining back in 2016.
What Arj loves most about his role is the team he works with, whom he describes as a second family, and the excellent rapport he has with so many of his customers.
He is well known for his ability to work closely with customers on a tight budget and reduce their costs by searching out and recommending great product alternatives.
Walking his German Shepherd Husky, Cesar, and binge-watching crime and mystery series are some of the things he likes getting up to outside of work.
Can dentists help the fight against oral cancers?
Absolutely. DCPs are at the heart of tackling oral cancer by ensuring patients have regular check-ups, delivering better detection and prevention of the disease. Talking to your patients about their mouth cancer checks – what you are doing and why you are doing it –is a great way to start a conversation around their risk factors involved and maybe their overall general health too.
We all must continue to raise awareness of oral cancers and promote healthier lifestyles, and this includes healthy oral hygiene routines too. This is why we love brands like Curaden, Wisdom and Acclean, whose product range and ethos are centred around creating a healthier world and promoting whole-body health.
When it comes to the best interdentals, my customers love the Acclean brand because of the size variety and how easier the handle length and angle make accessing molars and premolars. Not only are Acclean brushes quality and comfortable for patients, but the price per brush is as good as anything we sell.
