Throughout this November, thousands of people will be raising awareness of mouth cancer within their communities through fundraising and spreading important messages.
Last year alone, over 8,000 people in the UK were diagnosed with mouth cancer. The more we know about the disease, the better chances of beating it. Dental care professionals are at the heart of this fight by ensuring patients have regular check-ups, delivering better detection and prevention of the disease.
Talking to your patients about their mouth cancer checks – what you are doing and why you are doing it –is a great way to start a conversation around the risk factors involved and their general health. All industry stakeholders must continue to raise awareness of oral cancers and promote healthier lifestyles, and this should include healthy oral hygiene routines too.
Get involved on Blue Wednesday!
As part of Mouth Cancer Action Month, Blue Wednesday takes place on November 13th and it’s easy to get involved and support the cause. The aim of Blue Wednesday is simple: to encourage as many people as possible to check their mouth for the early warning signs of mouth cancer.
