Join us for a lecture by Dr. Melanie Goan, author and Professor of History at the University of Kentucky who will give the talk “Call the Midwife: Mary Breckinridge and the Frontier Nursing Service.” Across America, medical doctors were becoming the standard of care and hospital deliveries were becoming the norm for pregnant mothers in the early twentieth century. Mary Breckinridge proposed an alternative system when she created the Frontier Nursing Service in Leslie County, Kentucky, in 1925.
