QUALITIES AND SKILLS OF A GREAT VOLUNTEER- LEARN FROM KENT PAUL SCARBOROUGH
Many people are thinking of becoming volunteers in charitable organization near them. What is stopping them? They worry about whether they have what it takes to be great volunteers. What skills are community organizations looking for? Using Kent Paul Scarborough’s example, Read to understand what skills and qualities one should have to be a great volunteer. Kent Paul Scarborough was a board member and volunteer at Wounded Heroes Organization in Brisbane, Queensland, from 2014–2015. Here, he assisted with the provision of help to injured soldiers who have PTSD and physical disabilities inflicted on them through various wars. Kent Paul Scarborough, in his capacity as a board member, received referrals from chaplains for human-to-human communication with the soldiers’ immediate family, assisted with the distribution of donated cash, and used his skills to assist in organizing the restoring and renovating of dwellings for the wounded soldiers. He indeed has what it takes to be a volunteer.
WHAT VOLUNTEER SKILLS AND QUALITIES DOES HE HAVE? Volunteering is not just about assisting with the distribution of donated cash, it involves skills and qualities. The good thing is, they are the same skills one has at work or any other setting. What one needs is to use them for a good and honest charitable deed, just as Kent Paul Scarborough did. Passion and selfless comes first. Kent Paul Scarborough gave his time to a cause he believed in and helped people in the process. He was selfless and passionate about helping the wounded soldiers.
