Michelle Ramsey, D.P.T. B.A., ’02, University of Kentucky B.S., ’06, University of Kentucky M.S., 06, University of Kentucky D.P.T., ’08, University of Kentucky Michelle Ramsey has a heart to help people, it’s just who she is. The desire to help those who were unable to help themselves inspired her to pursue her education to the highest level. She graduated in 2008, and was one of two African Americans to have earned four degrees from the University of Kentucky, from bachelor’s to doctorate. Her parents gave her the confidence and assurance that everything works out the way it is supposed to as long as she does her part. The Kentucky Governor’s Scholar graduated with high distinction from Tates Creek High School and knows the value of excellence and hard work.
Ramsey has benefitted from her education at UK and encourages other African-American students to take advantage of any and all experiences and opportunities at the university. She learned that in a large university with a small minority population, you have to be active and participate in as many activities as possible to not only enhance social interactions, but academic experiences as well. She did not realize the historical significance of her academic achievement, but the discovery has increased her gratitude for what she was able to accomplish at UK.
UK was a natural choice for the Lexington native, whose father is also an alum. She praises her undergraduate and graduate professors for always being willing to help her and provide great advice while a student and as a professional. She chose physical therapy because she wanted to help motivate people to get well, especially those who could not do anything for themselves as a result of their injury.
“If I can be a part of someone getting back to or becoming able to do something they previously could not, that gives me the most satisfaction.”
