Her company, Nerd Babes—where she holds the title of Head Nerd Babe in Charge— focuses on old wine, bourbon and beer bottles and cans, transforming them into functional art in the form of candles and tiki torches. She crafts upcycled items—with Kentucky farm fencing turned into lamps and jars, and cans and mugs transitioned into planters. In addition to pursuing a doctorate in biochemistry, Johnson aims to keep as much stuff as possible from ending up in a landfill.
