letter of INTENT
I am pleased to present my portfolio to you, in an effort to showcase the skills I have obtained while studying Architecture at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. I have a strong passion to ensure that my designs are both innovative and environmentally conscious. Throughout the course of my undergraduate studies, I have had the opportunity to learn from some of the most reputable professors in the state of Florida. As a result, I have become more proficient at meticulously designing creative structures and spaces. My greatest strengths include implementing sustainable practices, digital rendering, and cultivating conceptual design, I have worked with various automated solutions such as Photoshop, AutoCAD, Revit, Lumion, and Google Sketch Up. I have also taken classes in the field of Construction to include Structures, Construction Documents, as well as Materials & Methods. I am confident in my ability to be a valuable asset to your company. I look forward with great anticipation to discuss with you the many ways I can make a significant contribution to your company. MAGNUM HALL
In conjunction with the many developing improvements on the thriving campus of Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, a proposition for an all girls dorm in honor of the newly elected first woman president, Dr. Elmira Mangum was designed. The hall’s site is located north of the newly constructed FAMU Villages, housing 170 beds, state of the art conference/business center, laundry facility, and rentable retail spaces at street level. FAMU has undertaken a concerted effort to improve the campus, structures, and transportation routes. The university’s Master Plan update provides long range planning from 2010-2020. While introduced to the elements of master planning, thorough analyzation of the university’s master plan was used to create the design of Mangum Hall.
The overall objective was to create a fun-safe facility for the students of Florida A & M University with informal learning settings, such as flexible common spaces which allow for non-traditional residence hall classrooms and spaces for students to collaborate on projects. Implement mixed use/urban infill to help foster more vibrant neighborhoods and boost goodwill with the surrounding community, retail and restaurant spaces open to nonuniversity patrons. This project was completed in collaboration with a fellow classmate, Devon Jamaal Paige. [NOTE: The renderings for this project was done in Revit.]

The program includes restrooms, storage, 3-private mediation niches and sanctuary with views to both Mirror Lake and Mount Hood. Designed to have a significant contrast with its natural setting, hence the conscious selection of a concrete faรงade. [NOTE: The renderings for this project was done in Revit.]

The operational departments in the academy include administrative, educational classrooms, and an art center/gallery. Major exterior zones are the courtyard and community park to be utilized by both the school and the members of the neighborhood. Located north of the site is an active set of railroad tracks.
