Chewelah 80 MILES / 129 KM
Chewelah has approximately 2,600 residents, and is nestled in a mountain valley providing spectacular views. The town was formed in the early 1870s and was the site of a magnanese mine during World War I. Nowawdays, it can be seen as a place with vibrant culture, unique shopping, outdoor adventures and is also known as the southern gateway to the Colville National Forest. Chewelah is home to one of Washington’s first Creative Districts, featuring downtown artistic murals and artists displaying their work in several businesses around town. The art gallery in town, Trails End Gallery, hosts an art walk every
month known as the First Thursday. For those that enjoy live theatre,the area also offers a wide variety of performance arts at the Chewelah Center for the Performing Arts. If you seek adventure in the winter months, travel 10 miles to the top of the Flowery Trail pass at 4,046 feet where 49 Degrees North Ski Resort offers a family-oriented ski hill with miles of groomed trails. The area also has many snowmobiling and cross-country opportunities for people to enjoy. When snow is not on the ground, visitors can enjoy the only 27-hole golf course in eastern Washington, Chewelah Golf & Country Club.
