02: [From Concrete to Discrete] Contemporary UnitĂŠ d'habitation Project type: Academic & Individual Work, USC M.Arch Thesis Phase: Concept Location: Marseille, France Contribution: All Instructor: Wes Jones_wesleyjo@usc.edu Duration: 4 months, 1/2018-4/2018

In Corbusier’s proposal, he simply put commercial street in the middle of the building, most people would not come in, some neighbors may even do not know. The commercial street is enclosed, which means the accessibility of the commercial area is difficult. As the result, the commercial would lose its public value. Though the process below, this problem will be solved properly.

[PROCESS]

For the commercial spaces, the size of the module is 2 time, 4 times and 8 times as the residential module.

[COMMERCIAL SPACE]

If the building can not fulfil people’s need in the future. The module concept and steel frame structural system will allow this building to grow.

[FUTURE POSSIBILITY]

STORE + EXHIBITION MODE

CLOTHING STORE The roof of the commercial space will become the public platforms of the people who live here. They can go out from the corridors. Also, the end of the corridors will also be the public platforms.

[COMMERCIAL TYPES]

The elevation which faces the main street is pretty pure, but some moments with blue glass boxes hint that the other elevation is quite different.
