Concrete Poem: Brown

Metaphor: Filled with warm sunlight Simile: Glowing like a cat’s eyes

6

Haikus: Ebbing The steady patter Of the rain lulls me to sleep The sound is so sweet So, the water goes Flowing, constantly changing Quickly and slowly

So picturesque The floral smells and flowing river Better than the florescent lights of the flourishing cities (assonance and consonance)

7

Palindrome: Autumn Falling leaves Twirling swiftly, racing Sunlight glistening Streaming swiftly, softly Slowly falling, fading Drifting slowly One by one Ephemeral -ChangingLeaves falling Racing, swiftly twirling Glistening sunlight Softly, swiftly streaming Fading, falling slowly Slowly drifting One by one Ephemeral 8

In black is the repetition and alliteration

Pantoum: Chilly The cold breeze slithered across my bare arms Goosebumps formed along my skin It seemed like the moon had cast a charm With its crescent shape it looked like a malicious grin Goosebumps formed along my skin The night was filled with mischief and temptation With its crescent shape it looked like a malicious grin The moons charm acted as an invocation The night was filled with mischief and temptation Calling to those hidden creatures that lurk The moons charm acted as an invocation From down under they come, one by one, like clockwork Calling to those hidden creatures that lurk It seemed like the moon had cast a charm From down under they come, one by one, like clockwork The cold breeze slithered across my bare arm Personification 9

Villanelle: Constant Running Thud Thud Thud Keep going, push through, whatever you do, don't stop Running, keep running, run, just push through the mud It keeps pumping, ba dump ba dump ba dump, the sound of blood Heart pounding, led heavy legs, the crowd roaring serves as a backdrop Thud Thud Thud Running through my veins, endorphins stream like a flash flood I keep running, heart hammering hard against my chest, running nonstop Running, keep running, run, just push through the mud I hear the constant, dull thud Blood rushing in my ears, I hear the pop Thud Thud Thud

10

Whether it be concrete, the track, or mud Running hard, pushing against all odds, running to win and not be a flop Running, keep running, run, just push through the mud

I am the underdog but I won't be a dud Even though all I want to do is drop Thud Thud Thud Running, keep running, run, just push through the mud

All in black are devices as follows: Onomatopoeia, Repetition, Metaphor, Simile, Personification

Narrative: Vigilance 11

My heart sounds like a drum in my ears I can feel the hairs on the back of my neck My eyes are blinded by tears I can hear the ponding footsteps above on the deck I watch the water ripple causing the boat to sway My eyes follow the boats motion Heart pounding, I wish he'd go away The boat keeps moving and I hope it doesn’t float out into the ocean The boat's movement is stilling and the steps get closer His steps reach the end of the dock just as the boat stills, If I stay quiet he won't find me, I just have to keep my composure; there is a ringing in my ears and it sounds shrill My eyes which were on the boat previously had shut, I opened them and no longer saw the boat, there he was, all I thought was crud. 12

Boat’s movement is the symbol and the feeling of the hairs on the back of the neck is an hyperbole

Limericks It is plain to see here 13

In your eyes it must appear Right before your very eyes

It's not concealed by any guise

Although to one it may be unclear There once was a little prince In the sand he followed the prints He met a young pilot

That was stuck on an islet

Who found himself in a province What a pretty little flower That one can see from a tower

Except for the glares from the sun Which isn't much fun

Because of this terrible hour

Ode: To She 14

Annoyingly airheaded art thee With thy constant foolish humor And mine continuous berating of thee , naming you, loser Though thou may be foolish , can count on thee I guarantee , I may be melancholic and shed tears We may argue until our throats are hoarse And we speak words that are coarse But I know that I can count on thee if I need cheers Dear sister of mine Thee art my lifeline

Epithet and Apostrophe

Sonnet: Creeping

Her heart sounds like a drum in her ears 15

She can feel the hairs on the back of her neck Her eyes are blinded by tears

She can hear the ponding footsteps above on the deck

She watches the water ripple causing the boat to sway Her eyes follow the boats motion

Heart pounding, She wished he'd go away The boat keeps moving and she hopes it doesn’t float out into the ocean The boat's movement is stilling and the steps get closer

His steps reach the end of the dock just as the boat stills,

If she stays quiet he won't find her, she just has to keep her composure; there is a ringing in her ears and it sounds shrill

Her eyes which were on the boat previously, had shut She opened them and no longer saw the boat, there he was, all she thought was crud .

Free Verse: The Winding Soul

16

The soul soars with the wind It’s empty like a field Broken glass Brimming with floral life But all flowers wither Slowly wilting, dying Like a candle’s flame Dying out it transforms Gaining the freedom of birds
