Settled in 1656 and named by the Shinnecock Native Americans as the “land of the big ground nuts,” the Sagaponack of today is still virtually untouched by commerce. Private and protected, this quaint seaside village harkens back to simpler times. Still in existence are its one-room schoolhouse and general store, which now operate in a community known for its farmstands, world-class winery, white sand beaches and wealthy homeowners.
