HPMS Students Win Essay Contest

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. This month and throughout the year, Kerrville ISD encourages all individuals and organizations to play a role in making Kerrville a better place for children and families. Research shows that when parents possess six protective factors, the risk for neglect and abuse diminish and optimal outcomes for children, youth, and families are promoted. The six protective factors are: • Nurturing and attachment • Knowledge of parenting and of child and youth development • Parental resilience • Social connections • Concrete supports for parents • Social and emotional development and well-being Each month, Micah Wrase, LSSP, holds Families on Track meetings to teach parents different strategies for raising a healthy family. Call 257-2203 for more information.

Tivy High School’s Media Technology Department now has a new qualification to add to their college and job applications – that of television news show producers and anchors! The department is producing, filming and packaging a 10 minute newscast each week to air on Tivy’s internal school televisions (channel 68) as well as on the district’s own Time Warner Cable Channel 2. The shows are also posted to the district’s YouTube page at www.youtube.com/ TheKerrvilleISD. Brandon Curtis and Brie McKinney serve as the news anchors, covering all the events going on at Tivy that week from college visits to award winners and exam dates. The team uses different students that sub in and cover sports news each week. Very soon, the students are going to begin broadcasting morning announcements each morning as school begins. The Media Tech Class, led by Lee Pool, teaches students the technical aspects of television production, preparing them for a job in Broadcast TV. Way to go Tivy Media Tech!
