We all have a creative side whether we show it or not. This semester Humans of Tivy seeks to explore the artistic development of our staff and students with a game. Participants randomly select from a group of cards, each card providing its own imaginative stimulus. Enjoy the many sketches that our brilliant Humans of Tivy have produced after drawing their card.

is my last time that I would go to homecoming as a student of Tivy. It just adds to the list of lasts that creep up on you as the year progresses,” senior Meagan Doyle said. It’s an exciting time for seniors, wrapping up their four years of high school to start a new adventure in college. Homecoming can also mean different things to different people. From the parade, where it’s evident of the citywide support for tivy, to the contagious spirit here in the town, “My experience of my last homecoming was really nice. My favorite part was getting free food before I went to the game...you know, because my date paid for me.” senior Rachel Boutin said. Homecoming at Tivy is truly unique for everyone and it captures and exhibits the school, and city, spirit shared in the community.

By Kianna Dao Walking to her second period dance class, sophomore Brynley Baker was pleasantly surprised by the Homecoming proposal from her boyfriend, sophomore Reese Dunagan. “It was our first homecoming together so I wanted to make it special for her!” Dunagan said. Reese got some of Brynley’s closest peers, including her sister, Senior Brooklyn Baker, and her Golden Girl friends, senior Abbey Appel and sophomore Davina Villarreal to help out. Each person lined up on top of the stairs, followed by Reese asking Brynley, holding last sign, with a path of rose petals and a bundle of roses in the dance room. “I was so surprised and I didn’t really know what was going on until the end, but it was really cute,” Baker said.

FALL 2015
“I’ve Got Some NAMES, Let’s Play Some GAMES!” Staff Writer Miriam Davis Visions of blue and gold flood the eyes of students. Blasts of band music fill their ears. Drum line changes the rhythm of heartbeats. The crowd seems chaotic, but it brings a unique excitement that pumps through the hearts of Antlers all day. Bleachers overflow with costumed kids who show their spirit through different, themes every week. This is no ordinary pep rally, this is Tivy High School pep rally. A group of junior girls show Tivy how to do spirit right every week. Naomi Exum, Shay Kana, Harley Garcia and Jade Jones dress to impress each Friday. Since these girls’ outfit of choice is the theme of the day spelled out in t-shirts, they show how incredible it is to be part of a team. “My favorite day was rock star day our freshman year because that was the first time we all dressed up together,” Exum said. It probably wouldn’t be too farfetched for Tivy to expect to see these girls keep the spirit game strong all the way through next year’s football season as well. Another group of young ladies also showed us what it truly is to be an Antler. McKenzie Fine and Megan Doyle set the spirit-bar high on Pink Out day. The cleverly dressed girls decided to take up a collection supporting breast cancer research at lunch on the lawn in order to donate the money to a couple of local teachers who are breast cancer survivors. In one day they managed to raise over $400. “Everyone was extremely giving and really into it,” Fine said. Events like as this exemplify how fun and encouraging theme days can be. This shows everyone what Antler pride really is all about.

This year’s marching production entitled Everything Will Be Alright is a show that involves darkness, shadows, and a bright curious girl wearing a yellow dress. Malia Segura, the girl in the yellow dress, ventures among the band, only to become the prey of the dark shadows lingering to trap her. At one point in the show Ashley Rowland, the leader of the darkness, turns the innocent girl into one of her but to Ashley’s surprise the girl in the yellow dress overcomes the darkness and turns the shadows into something quite like herself. Everything Will Be Alright made straight 1’s at their first UIL competition this fall. This is result of the hard work and dedication from students and staff as they worked each week to make their show better, get their marching in time, and improving visuals and choreography. The band advanced to the area marching competition this season.

“The main goal of Stay True And Run is to get kids up and active. Running is a great metaphor for life. The more effort you put in, the more you get out of it.” -Austin Clarkson, Sponsor
Life is about going the extra mile and learning to push yourself to be the best person you can be. Tivy’s new Stay True and Run (STAR) club helps instill these values in students. Not only do students learn about running and staying healthy, they learn about being mentally healthy as well. “I joined STAR to start anew, to get a feel of running again, to get up in the morning and enjoy nature, and what makes me keep going are my friends that enjoy the run,” Juan Sanchez said. This is more than just a club it’s a place where people get together to run, have fun, make new friends, and form a new love for excercise. STAR runs/walks on campus every Wednesday after school and meets at various locations in the community on Saturdays.

HOSA is another new club on campus. HOSA is a place for future health professionals to meet and build self-confidence, motivation, and enthusiasm. You can also set realisitc career and educational goals, and build a resume. This club is led by Mrs. Pintsch.
There are so many ways to impact this Earth. There are so many opportunities every day to change someone’s life. At a young age we are taught to help out the community, but in school we don’t always get a chance to help. That is why this year Tivy has a new club, called Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) that teaches students to help their community and teach them more about the medical field. They really are making a difference in our community. The club took donations for Floresville who was recently hit by a tornado.

“HOSA is a national club that is for students interested in healthcare to be prepared for the collegiate. Lots of people that work at the hospital have been involved in HOSA, and many of my students heard about it from people at the hospital and they asked about it. Years ago when Mr. Munson was here he had a HOSA club and it was just kind of dropped by the wayside, so I decided to resurrect it.” -Mrs. Pintsch, Sponsor 1: Mrs. Pintsch, Mariah Garces, Abigail Menchaka, Jocelyn Limon, Selena Vasquez, Ana Jimenez, and Cynthia Zuniga group photo. Art attack Staff writer & Photo editor Alexandra Grimes Art is a way for all students to express their creativity and let their imaginations run free. From spirit posters to english projects, art can be found all over school. The best part of all of these pieces is that each one is created by a Tivy student. When many people think of art they think of paintings and drawings but art can also be created through animation, sculpting, photography, or hundreds of other mediums. Every work of art reflects the ideas and feelings of the artist and the best part is that since everyone is unique, everyone’s art is too. So next time you walk the halls and something artistic catches your eye, think about the feelings and ideas that were put into it and how the artist chose to convey them.

“I like art because it is really fun and enjoyable. I admire nature a lot and life is so pretty that it inspired me to do this piece.” -Elizabeth Price
“Art is really cool because you can make and do whatever you want. You don’t need to think outside of the box, because there is no box in art.” -Stacey Lanier
“The best thing about art is that, there is no limit to what you can create. You can take a hideous meme and turn it into something gorgeous.” -Erica Hernandez
Fashion-istas By Staff Reports Fresh from the haircut down to the shoestrings - through their style, one’s colors truly begin to show. For some students fashion is more than a way to express themselves, it is a way of life. Junior Brittney Guild’s grandmother taught her how to sew when she was just eight years old and the skill has stayed with her. “I plan to major in interior design at Texas Tech. I own a sewing machine and do alterations for others,” Guild said. Guild is currently taking Mrs. Gibson’s advanced fashion design class. “I make coffee cup sleeves, keychains, sunglass holders and other items. Making pillows is my favorite thing to sew,” Guild said. Other students such as Abbey Appel, Kortnie Franzen and Caleb Hall have taken a liking to designing clothing and other items.
