01| Showcase Table Individual Project 8 weeks
Brief: “To develop a new joinery – the joint can be made using mechanical fasteners or without any external support.”
Objectives and Constraints Objectives: To develop a new joinery – the joint can be made using mechanical fasteners or without any external support. To make use of various shapes and forms. Including art forms to make the product marketable.
Constraints: Base structure should withstand load. A table top must be present with a height of 2 feet max. Should be easily manufactured with the available equipment and material.
Survey for Base Structure
Survey for Motifs
Concepts Developed These concepts were made using SolidWorks 2015.
Concept Selection: Weighted Decision Matrix Sample Form
Analysis of Decision matrix
Concept 9.1 was developed further based on design constraints and result of decision matrix Rank

Selection of Motifs:
Based on the final concept, Japanese characters were used on the table. The basic elements of life – water, fire, earth have been painted on the table to make it look more traditional.
02| Bicycle Booster Individual Project 10 weeks
Brief: “Portable, compact electric bicycle kit for urban transport.”
Actual Situation in India: At present,
Indian cities are living each day an accumulation of excessive traffic and noise. People who live nearby the workplace also use vehicles for transport. Air quality and the health are being harmed by the city traffic . In addition, the air pollution is the main cause of environmental disease in India. Because of this air pollution, the citizens have many possibilities to suffer some cardiovascular and respiratory problems. The most important reasons of this air pollution are the traffic increase, also the increase of cars with diesel engines that are more pollutant than cars with gasoline engine. Adding to the list of problems suffered by the Indian cities and therefore by the citizens is the noise caused by the traffic. There are 210 million Asians exposed to noise levels potentially hazardous to health. This problem is more and more increasing because of the traffic. Finally, and no less important, the climate change is quickly growing because of the air pollution in the cities. Urban traffic accounts for more than 40% of CO2 emissions generated by vehicles and 10% of total CO2 emissions in the Asia.
To improve this situation, it is necessary to change the culture and the costumes for urban mobility.
Motivation, Objectives and Benefits Motivation: The motivation behind this project was the students at NIT,Rourkela. I am a student of this institute and I used see my friends going outside on weekends and on special occasions on bicycles. As the market place is too far from institute they get tired and even in the institute campus since the academics is far from hostels. When I was in 2nd year of b.tech, I discussed this idea with my friends and they liked that idea. Few of them even agreed to involve in this project.
Objectives: To reconcile the economic development in cities with the quality of life and environmental protection. Developing new clean an efficient ways of transport. Minimize the environmental and health damage. Ensuring access for all the citizens.
Benefits: Instantaneous boost, portable, lightweight and able to fit to bicycle at multiple positions.
Methodology Product Specification Deciding the specification of the motor and battery: Motor is chosen on the basis of Maximum Torque it can deliver Estimate the maximum load – estimate the maximum torque needed – decide the rpm for assistance – power maximum=rpm maximum*torque maximum=voltage*current max Voltage is chosen as e.g24v then the I(maximum) is calculated and on that basis a battery is chosen.
Charger for the battery: Charger is attached with the battery and motor so that battery with charger is portable and hence the overall device.
Mount for the battery, charger and the motor: The mount is made for battery, charger and the motor as shown in the sketches. The device can be attached to any cycle and removed in seconds.

Form Exploration
03|Form Generation Method Individual Project 12 weeks
Brief: “To develop a new and innovative method for form exploration of physical products using basic product sketching and rendering techniques.
Objective, Constraint and Benefits Objective: To develop a new and innovative method for form exploration of physical products using basic product sketching and rendering techniques.
Constraint: Since it is not possible to get an overall idea of the method using random products, Hair Dryer is chosen as a case study product.
Benefits: This method will help the industries in realizing what options are available for launching a particular product in the market. Few selected concepts can go through user research further giving a clear idea about the expectations about the product that different domains of users have.
Methodology Ideation

Addition of Details and Categorization
Categorization Addition of details, describing sketches and information from different books helped me in categorizing the products into 3 major domains based on: 1. Aesthetic Based on looks of product how attractive and visually pleasant the product looks. 2. User Centric Based on different user researches, anthropometric data, and ergonomic principles. 3. Analytical Based on any living or non-living analogy or the mapping of some of their attributes in the product. e.g. a sketch on right shows rough idea of analogy of aero plane turbine in hair dryer.
