LAUSD Arts Education inks deal with major studios, entertainment unions and guilds to create an “ADOPT –A- SCHOOL” Outreach Program (October 27, 2015- LOS ANGELES, CA) – Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Arts Education Branch administered by Executive Director Mr. Rory Pullens, and the newly appointed Industry Outreach Liaison, Tony-nominated Actress Ms. Alyson Reed, have finalized plans to roll-out a comprehensive outreach program benefitting LAUSD Schools and the Los Angeles Entertainment Industry. Various arms of the creative industry are already “adopting” local schools via donations of used and warehoused equipment, technical personnel, mentorships, and/or funding of special projects. “We’re calling this an arts ed revolution,” said Reed. This is the first time in the history of L.A. Unified that we are having a centralized hub for all of the entertainment industry.” An internship program has also been created to connect LAUSD students to studios, unions and guilds.

Ongoing mentorship/apprentice relationships among industry personnel and students through equipment training and sharing of expertise. First-Ever Arts Branch PR/Social Media Department publicizes Industry’s good works to their constituents in public, political, new business, and community sectors. Industry and Schools reap artistic, cultural and global rewards while building personal relationships, sharing experience and knowledge base. Industry up-cycles unused equipment and takes advantage of tax-deductible donations. Industry’s outreach is simplified through first ever Arts Branch Centralized Hub, with the Liaison handling all coordination of requirements and paperwork.

Besides running the Duke Ellington School of the Performing Arts-Washington D.C. as CEO, Rory Pullens spent more than a decade as an arts administrator in Denver, where he designed the first elementary arts school for the public school system there. He worked for nearly two decades as a writer, director and producer in the entertainment industry in Los Angeles. His present positon brings him back to Southern California, where he grew up.
