VISUAL PORTFOLIO

Kevin Ignasius 1000283 M. Arch Structured Internship 2015 Architrave Design & Planning (ADP) - Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts

This visual portfolio aims to showcase my contribution as an architectural intern over the 16-week internship at Architrave Design & Planning, the in-house design consultant team at Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts. The following images will exhibit my work through 3D modelling, CAD line drawings as well as image rendering and colouring in assisting the lead designers and architects of the projects included.

These images show two out of many iterations for a new pavilion design that was supposed to be added into an existing Banyan Tree beach resort. I was tasked to come up with the massing design iterations of the new pavilion, which aims to maximise the beach view and showcase a modern design concept with timber as its main building material.

The 3D model on the left shows a concept design for a residence club in a resort in Thailand. The building aims to emphasise a modern building concept that is infused with traditional Thai architectural elements. I was tasked to create the 3D model of this building based on a perspective sketch done by the architect and a rough floor plan showing its dimensions.

Shown on the left is a ground floor plan of a hotel in China in its massing stage. This is one of the iterations in which I helped out with generating the line drawings for it with the accurate dimensions of the road and the massing arrangements based on a sketch done by the architect.

These are the drawings for a renovation project in which a traditional house was going to be re-purposed into a classroom/lab. I was given the job to draw (in a CAD software) the new architectural elements that were going to be constructed into the building, as well as the changes in dimensions.

This is a drawing done for a villa in Thailand, showing the ground floor plan. During the design process, I helped in making changes to the dimensions to the plan, creating/removing the internal partition of the units, and arranging the furniture.

Since usually the drawings generated are for presentation purposes, it is not sufficient to simply leave the drawings in monochrome. The next step would be to texture and colour the CAD drawings, which also constituted part of my job for this project, as shown in the second storey floor plan of the same villa on the left.

I was also fortunate to be involved in projects of various scales during my internship. For instance, I was involved in the design process of a master plan of a resort in Thailand. More specifically, I was tasked to plan out the various activities and their routes on this master plan.

Sometimes, manipulating perspective images was also necessary to present an idea for a project. The image on the left shows a perspective image I learnt to edit to show the changes that were to be implemented on the ground facade of an existing building.

This is another photo manipulation that I managed to complete which also served to showcase the new look of an existing building. Compared to the perspective photo shown previously, this was more time-consuming to do due to more complex editing required.

Shown on the left is another edited perspective photo, which attempts to portray a new chapel structure in its context by overlaying the image taken from the 3D model of the structure with a photo located by a water body. In this project, I was tasked to help with finalising the texture of the chapel structure and manipulating the photos.

This photo shows some of the talented team members of ADP (Architecture) that I had the chance to work with and learn much from as well as us the interns. More than just colleagues and supervisors, they also felt like both mentors and friends during my 16-week internship there. Photo credit: Magdalene Teo, ADP, 2015
