DVD Project Directions and Rubric You are expected to be working with your group on this project outside of class, throughout the semester. Although this is a group project, you will be graded individually. You and your group will film each dance/dance move and create one DVD for each group member and the instructor. This skills test allows you to film your best performance. Remember that one purpose of this DVD is for you to have it as a reference guide when you teach dance, as well as a portfolio piece, so spend some time on editing making sure it is as perfect as possible! Directions: 1. Film your introduction and instructional line dance (see peer teaching assignment for more info). 2. Film each ballroom dance and create a DVD (help with editing is available during my office hours). a. Follow the routine provided for the duration of 1 song. 3. Each move is worth 2 points. a. Competent (2 points): The dance skill was performed correctly. b. Approaching Competence (1 point): You demonstrated the move correctly, but need a little more practice before you are ready to teach this skill. You either you did not perform the lead correctly, did not follow the lead correctly, or your footwork was off. c. More Practice Needed (0 points): You need more practice to be deemed acceptable for this skill. 4. Music to use: a. Merengue: Azul - Christian Castro (Letra) b. Cha-Cha: Baila Morena by Zucchero c. Swing: Zoot Suit Riot by Cherry Poppin' Daddies d. Waltz: St.Patrick's Day by John Mayer 5. Every group member should: a. Contribute with suggestions and ideas for how to make this an awesome portfolio piece. b. Do an equal share of the work in this DVD production. c. Respect others' ideas and contributions. d. Group and self evaluations will be averaged along with input from the instructor. 6. Tips for filming: a. Check taping after 1st dance to make sure everything looks good. b. Try to use the same location for each filming session. It should have good lighting and enough space. c. Dancers’ full bodies should be in the frame. Use cones or chairs to set up camera field. Make sure these markers are not in the shot. The LCD is not as accurate as the viewfinder to determine the area being videotaped. i. Prior groups have used the Rec Center, Gunter gym, and Gray gym d. Use a 10 second lead-in to each shot (this allows room for clean edits). e. Use a tripod. Handheld cameras make for a shaky video. f. Make sure the music is clear and loud enough (the stereo should be close to the camera). g. Dress professionally. h. Tape over scenes that you won’t use. This saves time when uploading and editing the video. i. Label film each dance session. j. Stay on schedule so that you will not run into problems finishing the DVD! Group: Pts
