My second season is a chance to put into practice what I learnt in my first. So, what did I learn? Well …
This company has amazing musical performers. Grand Hotel is a blockbuster musical with a bit of everything: passion, crime, laughter, a wonderful score and great dancing. Our audience loves brilliant writing, for young or old. The Magician’s Nephew will bring C.S. Lewis’ legendary world of Narnia to life in a show for all the family. We all love a bit of pure escapism. Sherlock Holmes in The Hound of the Baskervilles marks the return of the murder mystery to The Shaw, in a script that bursts with life and intrigue. Stephen Fry is even more dazzling in person than on screen. I knew that already, because he is my friend. But no one should miss the chance to hear one of the geniuses of the age telling the greatest stories of all time – in his own special way! We are suckers for romance. Stage Kiss is not just a hilarious backstage comedy, it also has a really beautiful heart. Then there’s our double-bill of comedies — Of Marriage and Men and our Lunchtime one-act O’Flaherty V.C. — that show Bernard Shaw at his dazzling, mischievous best. And then there’s our cracking Studio season, Secret Theatre and so much more! Oh, and I learnt that we have the best audience in the world. Come and be part of it. After all, theatre is one of those basic human needs: you can do it on your own, but it’s so much better in company. Let’s get together.

Funny, relevant and heartbreaking, this Pygmalioninspired tale of friendship and revenge cuts to the core of what it means to be “civilized” — and to be human. MATURE CONTENT AND STRONG LANGUAGE. STAY THE NIGHT
Bliss. It’s where vineyards sprawl under the summer sun, and wine is sipped by the sunset, not the glass. Where you hail a horse-drawn carriage, instead of a taxi. Where you can perfect your swing on North America’s oldest golf course, and then be transformed by an evening of world-class theatre. Where every street sparkles with historic charm and the locals have a distinctly warm sense of hospitality. Blissful Niagara-on-the-Lake welcomes you.

FRIENDS HAVE MORE FUN
Ensemble repertory theatre is not common anymore. The idea of supporting a company of artists – actors, directors, designers, composers, musicians, craftspeople – is rare now because it is, at its heart, a very expensive way to do the work — much more so than the normal, one show at a time, framework common to Broadway or regional theatre. It is an investment in artists and one we think pays off in the quality of performance. At The Shaw, we are fortunate to have thousands of supporters who make up the difference between ticket revenues and our total operating costs, either through Membership (Friends $100 to $1999) or Governors Council ($2000+). Our supporters help to make each wonderful season of plays possible for everyone. To thank our Friends (Members), we invite them to many unique insider experiences such as: • Open Rehearsals – in the rehearsal hall with the director, the stage manager and the actors. • Dress Rehearsals – in the theatre with the cast on stage and the director fine-tuning the play. • Mix & Mingles – in various locations, often featuring pop-up performances from members of the Ensemble, and providing an opportunity to share refreshments and conversations with other Friends of The Shaw. These are just a few of the many delights of Membership – others are highlighted on the opposite page and you can find the full list of exclusive events and benefits on our website. We want our Friends to have a deeper connection to the Company and to our work. Join us now and you too can be part of the fun! All my best,
Tim Jennings, Executive Director
