Electronics industry associations announce merger LAS VEGAS, NV - The National Electronics Distributors Association (NEDA) and the Electronic Components Association (ECA) have announced an agreement to merge. A merger transition team has been created to finalize details. Pending completion of the due diligence process, the new association, to be named the Electronic Components Industry Association (ECIA), will commence operation in January 2011. The mission of the new association will be to promote and improve the business environment for the authorized sales of electronic components. The merger will enable the industry to speak with one voice for the manufacturers and distributors of electronic components on issues of critical importance to the authorized channel. The combined membership, resources and leadership will incorporate the necessary elements to provide enhanced member benefits and services while reducing duplication of efforts and decreasing costs. “NEDA and ECA have been united

with respect to their fight against counterfeit product and in support of the authorized channel,” said Robin B. Gray, Jr., NEDA executive vice president. “It makes good business sense to combine our efforts for maximum effectiveness.” ECIA is expected to become the premier association in the electronics industry today, championing best manufacturing practices, standards, industry advocacy and industry statistics. ECA and NEDA will continue to manage unique programs and services for each association’s constituencies prior to full integration into the new association. “Our associations have worked together on past events that have proven to be highly beneficial to our combined memberships,” said Bob Willis, ECA president. “ECIA will extend cooperative efforts to ECA and NEDA into year-round programs that will enable our members to weather change, exploit new technologies, and create a better environment for business success.”

Are counterfeit components hiding in plain sight? You bet your life, and maybe others’, too. Faulty, fake components that often pass initial tests are boldly making their way into consumer products, medical products, even military products, threatening lives and livelihoods every day. Supplier Authorized Distributors reduce the risk, delivering genuine parts from legitimate suppliers, with screening, traceability and warranty support you can trust. And they’re easy to spot. Just look for the Supplier Authorized Distributor logo.

Abbatron acquires G&H Industries MEADVILLE, Pa – Abbatron, LLC, a

privately held manufacturer of electronic component parts, announced on Feb. 23 that it has acquired the assets of privately-held G&H Industries, Inc. Based in Centreville, Mich., G&H is a designer and manufacturer of high performance audio connectors and cable assemblies. The proprietary designs are primarily used by the audio, broadcast and entertainment industries. “Combining G&H’s superior designs with Abbatron’s advanced manufacturing capabilities strengthens our position in the worldwide marketplace,” said Robert Sok, CEO of Abbatron. “Once the acquisition is completed, Abbatron’s product offering will increase from approximately 2100 to 2500 different products.”

G&H Industries, founded in 1987 by Bob Ganger and Paul Haas, both of whom will remain active in the business following the acquisition, provides high performance connectors and cable assembly products to the worldwide audio industry. “We are delighted to join forces with Abbatron,” said Paul Haas, president of G&H. “It’s truly a perfect fit. The main benefit is going to be for our customers. We will provide even better service while continuing to provide the most advanced audio connectors and cable products available anywhere.” This is Abbatron’s first major acquisition since acquiring Meadvillebased HHSmith and its four subsidiaries in 2001. “Our worldwide collaborators are looking forward

to the expanded offering, especially to professional entertainers,” said Sok. “The proprietary oxygen-free copper core in G&H’s audio connectors provides cleaner, more efficient signal transmission, with excellent durability. G&H connectors also use a separate ground sleeve connection that will not loosen and cause noise, a major problem with many competitive designs.” Abbatron plans to combine operations at their newly renovated Meadville, Pa. facility. “We expect the integration to be fully completed during the second quarter of this year,” said Harold “Skip” Simmons, Abbatron’s president and COO. “The acquisition should create 8 to 10 jobs in Meadville in the near future.”

ITT’s circular bayonet databus connector enables reliable data transmission in mass transit ITT Interconnect Solutions, a leading global manufacturer and supplier of connectors, interconnects and cable assemblies, has developed a circular bayonet databus connector for reliable data transmission between rail cars. The CIR-M12 connector enables a variety of data types to be transmitted between coaches in mass transit systems, including Ethernet, MVB, WTB and video lines. “Customers in the mass transit market requested a connector solution that bundled multiple Ethernet and MVB lines into a single connector,” said Keith Teichmann, director of marketing for ITT Interconnect Solutions. “The CIR-M12 connector allows designers to incorporate data transfer from Ethernet, MVB, WTB, and video lines according to VG95234 (where applicable), within the same connector, handling diverse data feeds such as engine diagnostics, brake controls, environmental conditioning, passenger display systems, networking and lighting control.” The CIR-M12 connector is comprised of ITT’s Quadrax QXM12 contacts mounted into their proven FRCIR connector circular bayonet series hardware. Four conductor wires and the associated braid from shielded cables are integrated into the QXM12 contact, and a special plastic

insert groups multiple QXM12 contacts and their cables into a singular connector. The CIR-M12 databus connector contacts are rated at 3A (maximum current for 1ms is 10A), while operating voltage is 100Vdc and insulation resistance is 10GΩ. Mechanically, the insert conforms to UNI-CEI 11170 (I2F2) and UL94-V0 specifications, and is formed from thermoplastic material according to NFF16-101 – NFF16-102. The coupling gasket is made from silicone rubber and other parts are produced with flame retardant rubber. The metallic parts of the connector are comprised of RoHS-compliant aluminium alloy with black epoxy-urethanic varnish. Operating temperature ranges from -40°C to +125°C. Typical pricing for the CIR-M12 connector including plug, receptacle, and 4 male and female contacts is approximately $255. Lead time is from 8 to 10 weeks. ITT Interconnect Solutions is an international manufacturer and supplier of connectors including circular, rectangular, fiber optic, RF, power and high voltage, audio, PCMCIA, Compact Flash Card, enclosures, cable assemblies, and application specific custom solutions. IQD launches a new low phase noise clock oscillator IQD Frequency Products has introduced a new low phase noise crystal clock oscillator to satisfy increasing customer demand for enhanced performance in this area. The new model’s typical phase noise performance of –159dBc/Hz (100kHz offset) at 40MHz puts it ahead of comparable products by around 10dB. Housed in a miniature surface mount 2.5x2.0mm ceramic package, this new oscillator encompasses four variants, each with different supply voltage requirements: CFPS-112 (1.8V), CFPS-113 (2.5V), CFPS-114 (3.0V) and CFPS-115 (3.3V). The 1.8V version (CFPS-112) has a particularly low current consumption of only 3mA. Frequencies are available from 26 to 40MHz with a tri-state CMOS output. Operating temperature range is –40 to +85°C along with a standard frequency stability of ±50ppm. Its capabilities make it particularly suitable for applications in mobile wireless communications equipment such as Ethernet, Wi-Max and Multi Media as well as hand held PDA’s where phase noise performance can affect data

transfer. Available packaging includes cut tape, bulk-pack or tape-and-reel formats, depending upon volumes and requirements. For more information, visit www.iqdfrequencyproducts. com.
