TAL, CRANOR TAL class takes on Capitol Hill, completes leadership development training This summer, the 2013 TAL class traveled to Washington D.C. for Session II, where they gained invaluable experience and contacts that will allow them to grow professionally and add to their respective companies, associations, communities and the industry. In addition to touring several historical monuments and the capitol, the TAL class, along with KGFA Chairman Ted Schultz, met with our national associations and members of the Kansas Congressional delegation to lobby on issues vital to the success of Kansas agribusiness. The class then finished their final session in Wichita on September 13 wrapping up what was an exciting year. Session III consisted of leadership development training at Wichita State University's Center for Management.

INDUSTRY NEWS KSU receives grant for grain dust training Kansas State University received a $105,000 grant from OSHA to train workers and employers on preventing explosions from grain dust at mills and elevators. KSU will use the funds to develop materials and training in English and Spanish on controlling dust generation when grain is being unloaded and handled. Other topics will include avoiding turbulence during handling, better control of bucket elevator operation, and use of appropriate sensors and explosion vents. KCC publishes final HOS regulation The Kansas Corporation Commission has published a final regulation which expands the hours-of-service exemptions for motor carriers transporting agricultural commodities and farm supplies, by adopting the most recent Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulation following passage of the federal Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act.

BNSF will continue its robust maintenance program, which will include about 2,500 miles of track surfacing and undercutting work, the replacement of nearly 100 miles of rail and about 375,000 railroad ties.
