After great attrition of Ali Saleh's forces on the Dofoos Front ANSAR AL-SHARI'AH ANNOUNCES A NEW STRATEGY AND DIFFERENT TACTICS FOR URBAN WARFARE During approximately four months of running battles, the images conveyed from the Dofoos battlefront on the heights of Zanjibar bear witness to the violent warfare occurring between Ansar al-Shari'ah and three Army brigades plus a fourth from the Republican Guard and CounterTerrorism force. The images also reveal the wide scale use by Ansar al-Shari'ah fighters of weapons acquired during ambushes conducted against mobile forces and assaults on army positions. Among this booty was a number of DC heavy artillery pieces, modern antiaircraft weapons, a number of tanks and armoured transports in addition to large quantities of different kinds of ammunition. It appears that Ansar al-Shari'ah has completed the phase of attrition of the army and gained much war booty, accoridng to statements made by one of the Ansar al-Shari'ah field commanders.

He added, "The coming period will be pulling the army into a war of attrition inside the city." This will strengthen the capabilities of the group which is trying to employ all of its forces in areas not exposed to aircraft fire, as opposed to what occurred during the clash in Dofus. The field commander spoke of using mines and remote controlled explosives, as well as a special unit of snipers, and of preparing car bombs. He said that the battle would not be concentrated on Zanjibar alone but that it would be extended to other areas and will reach Aden. Meanwhile, the state announced the death of 230 soldiers and officers during the past three months, while Ansar al-Shari'ah confirmed that the number of dead from the army and security forces was several times that number.

Saudi aircraft have dropped food supplies and petrol to the 25th Mechanized Brigade over the past four months. One of the Mujahideen from Ansar al-Shari'ah stated that this material was dropped by parachute and that some of this material dropped in the area around the 25th mechanized division and was seized by the Mujahideen through the grace of Allah. This attempt to offer support came in the framework of cooperation which Saudi Arabia provides to the government of Ali Saleh against the Yemeni revolution.
