INTRODUCTION
PORTFOLIO STRUCTURE In this portfolio, there are two main projects, one student project and one competition work, both of them are about urban housing.
These projects focus on the Connection from the Front Door to
the City, which means I look into the Territorries/Spaces between the front door and the city and also the Sense of Belonging of the spaces.
As for the another part of the portfolio, there are some key drawings vfrom two of my student projects in the second year.

PRECEDENT STUDY MAISON DE VERRE Renovation of Existing Fabric
INTRODUCTION of STUDY
Second Floor
Maison the Verre (means "House of Glass" in French) is designed by Pierre Chareau with Bernard Bijvoet, and built by 1928. Dealing with natural lighting, the designers decided to build a whole translucet glass block wall for both of the front and back elevations of the house in order to maximize the natural light into the house. This study focuses on its urban strategy and relationship between interior spaces.

A LAYERS of Public / Private Spaces are formed and an inner courtyard is then created. The inner space has lower degree in sharing (sense of belongings). Those territories provide filtering purpose: underblock passage filters the public, the house filters their neighbours.

LIVE WORK RESEARCH STUDIES Live- Work Units Strategy
A study in the Living
and Working Relationship of different units in Tower Hamlets is carried out.
This study focuses on How the relationship Affect the Living Style and Shape the Sense of Belonging of the Territories.
TRANSITIONAL SPACE MANNUAL Filtering the Types of Users
Further Study on the Live Work Units in Tower Hamlets, there are a series of Transitional
Spaces found.
These spaces give a Strong Sense of Ownership of the spaces by defing the Level of Sharing, Spatial Arrangement and Materiality. This greatly help in Filtering

LAYERING HOUSING HYBRID
02
Site Analysis and Design Stragegy
Idea - Layering of open spaces The site faces three types of busy street: a street full of public street life and commercial activities; a main road with busy pedestrian flow; and a desolated street with heavy traffic. Drawing from the complexity found in the site context and the inspiration from the traditional Columbian house- Hacienda, a layer of different open spaces and accesses are applied to attract different people to the site. The open spaces include private gardens, public square, terraces, patios and balconies. And each of these has its own dynamic qualities so as to generate a new series of housing hybrids.
Site Renewal In order to re-vitalize the site, the original car park is transformed into a public internal plaza, which would gather pedestrians from the surrounding busy streets. The existing church is preserved to form an iconic landmark while defining the main entrance of the housing complex at the same time.
Adaptable System Considering there might be future development plans, an adaptable hinge block is adopted to allow flexible growth in the future. The individual service core system and flexible layout allow users to establish a living or working space according to their specific needs.

The site is surrounded by three heavy traffic road. Two of the roads show strong difference in pedestrian activities. Thus, establishing a layers of open spaces in-between the roads is applied in this project.

PUBLIC OPEN SPACES Building Facade and Open Spaces Layers of Dynamic Open Spaces
Covered shop front walkway, facing the social market, allow people to get rest or sell products, so as to bring in the traditional social street life in South America. Due to the pedestrian network connection of the plaza, it becomes a node which encourage pedestrians to stay.
Existing church act as a new landmark in this district and define the main entrance. A setback in entrance froms a gathering square which becomes a meeting point for pedestrians View is clear from the plaza all the way to the market. The covered walkway guides the circulation and draw people to the shops.
