There are many reason why Khao Yai National Park, Nakhon Ratchasima province, remains extensively as a highly popular tourist attraction. One factor is Khao Yai’s relatively close distance to Bangkok, with only a 2 hours car drive and you can leave behind the bustling traffic of the city, a chaotic lifestyle, and the neverending workload, to leap freely into the arms of Mother Nature. เดินทางโดยรถยนต์ไปได้ 2 เส้นทางคือแยกจาก ถนนมิตรภาพบริเวณกิโลเมตรที่ 56 ไปตาม ถนน ธนะรัชต์ราว 23 กิโลเมตร อีกเส้นทางหนึ่ง คือ จากกรุงเทพฯ - แยกหินกอง ไปตามทางหลวง หมายเลข 33 (นครนายก - ปราจีนบุรี) เมื่อถึง สี่ แ ยกเนิ น หอมให้ ใ ช้ ท างหลวง 3077 จนถึ ง เขาใหญ่ แต่เส้นทางแรกจะมีความสะดวกมากกว่า เนือ่ งจากเส้นทางหลังจะชันกว่ามาก ส่วนการเดินทางด้วยรถประจ�ำทางให้ลงที่อ�ำเภอ ปากช่ อ งแล้ ว ต่ อ รถสองแถวบริ เ วณหน้ า ตลาด ปากช่ อ งซึ่ ง จะไปสุ ด เส้ น ทางที่ ด ่ า นเก็ บ เงิ น ทางขึ้นเขาใหญ่ รถมีบริการตั้งแต่เวลา 06.00 17.00 น. 2

You can take 2 routes to Khao Yai, one from the Mittaphap Km.65, follow the Thanarat road for 23 km. The other route is from the Bangkok - Hin Kong Intersection, following Highway 33 (Nakhonnayok - Prachinburi), upon reaching Noen Horm Intersection take Highway 3077 all the way to Khao Yai. However the first route is more convenient, the second travels up steeper terrain. If you plan on taking the public bus, get off at Pak Chong district and hop on a 2-row mini bus infront of Pak Chong market which travels all the way to the front gate of Khao Yai National Park. Bus is available from 06.00 A.M. to 05.00 P.M.

Korat House The Korat House is a raised platform 1-storey wooden residence, built from a readymade system for drilling, notching, carving, wedging, and doweling. The space is divided into 4 areas, the bedroom, balcony, exterior platform, and a kitchen, positioned to suit the colder winters and hot summers. Fried Noodles-Thai Korat Style It might seem similar to the Pad-Thai, but the Korat Style used special noodles that has viscous. You don’t have to soak in water pre-frying, and a mixture of grind fish and fried pork. The noodles are used in Phimai Noodles of Phimai district, Kra Tok Noodles of Chokchai district, Ta Ku Noodles of Pak Thong Chai district, Kud Jik Noodles of Soong Nern district, and finally Chakaraj Noodles of Chakaraj district. Pak Thong Chai Silk Widely renowned in the Pak Thong Chai district, the silk is derived from traditional mulberry culture, silk worm cultivation, and Thai weaving style. Its outstanding feature is the quality of fabric and detailed patterns from hand weaving, today it is popular in the country and abroad. 4

The Celebration of the Victory of Thao Suranaree is an annual festival in Nakhon Ratchasima province, held from 23 March to 3 April of every year at the Suranaree Park. The festival celebrates the day that Thao Suranaree won the opponent, with a procession of the great local goods of Korat, ceremony to worship Suranaree, an exhibition of public and private agencies, local food festivals, competitions and entertainment for free over the course of 12 days and 12 nights. The Phimai Boat Racing Festival and Phimai Travel Festival takes place on Saturday and Sunday during the second week of November. There are boat races of people from Phimai district and neighboring districts. B oat s a re f u r n i shed w it h Roy a l grandeur, accompanied by the Boat Parade Contest. There is also the Phimai Travel Festival with a Buddhist King and Buddhist History Parade, Buddhist Lantern Parade, and cultural performances. 5

The Korat Songkran Festival is a celebration of the fun for locals. It includes Songkran Parade Competitions, merit making ceremony, the pouring of water on elders to receive blessings held infront of the Thao Suranaree Statue, and concerts by various art ists. The BBQ Festival @ Korat is the largest food festival in the Northeastern region. Grilled food lovers can meet a barrage of international cuisine which guarantees deliciousness. Also enjoy the concert of famous artists, a festival to truly fulfill the stomach and heart.

Noodle Eating Festival and Candle Parade Ceremony of the Chokchai District is outstanding for its unique candle casting and carving that talk about the history of Buddhism and the Buddha to honor Thai tradition and culture. Exper ience the atmosphere of the candle procession, merit making during the Buddhist Lent, and the Chokchai Noodle Contest famous for its soft and sticky texture. There is also an exhibition of local popular OTOP products available. Chinese New Year Festival in Korat is an opportunity to strengthen relationship between Thailand and China with the Nakhon Ratchasima Municipality hosting the event. Interesting shows include dragon and lion parade, fire dragon shows, and mini lights and sound. Green Carnival: Love Korat, Love Khao Yai and Pray the Guardian Spirit Festival. There are booths selling various goods from Korat, and interesting activities such as worshipping the Khao Yai guardian spirit, exhibition to commemorate Pak Chong’s history, the first theater of memoirs in the middle of Khao Yai. The Lumtakong Dam Fish Festival is for fish lovers. Merchants bring in fresh fish from Lumtakong Dam to sell in the area at Baan Ta Ngoy, Nong Sarai subdistrict, Pak Chong district, Nakhon Ratchasima province.

KHAO YAI NATIONAL PARK Aside from chic coffee stops, organic healthy cuisine, and a line of adventurous activities awaiting for tourists, this 2,168 square meters of vast forest of Khao Yai National Park has also been claimed as the World Heritage Site by UNESCO. สถานที่ท่องเที่ยวที่น่าสนใจ • น�ำ้ ตกเหวนรก เป็นน�ำ้ ตกทีม่ คี วามสูงและสวยงาม มากที่สุดแห่งหนึ่งในอุท ยานแห่ง ชาติ เขาใหญ่ ควรเดินทางในช่วงเดือนกันยายน - ตุลาคมของ ทุกปี เพราะจะเห็นความยิ่งใหญ่ของน�้ำตกแห่ง นี้ และเวลา 10.00 น. จะเป็นเวลาที่แสงสาดมาที่ น�้ำตกจนเกิดสายรุ้งอันสวยงาม
• หนองผักชี หนองน�้ำแห่งนี้ก่อนหน้านี้เคยเป็น พื้นที่ที่ชาวบ้านบุกรุกเข้ามาปลูกพริกและผักชี กันมาก ต่อมามีค�ำสั่งให้ชาวบ้านอพยพออกจาก พื้ น ที่ ท� ำ ให้ พื้ น ที่ นี้ ก ลายเป็ น แหล่ ง อาหารอั น อุดมสมบูรณ์ของสัตว์ปา่ อุทยานแห่งชาติเขาใหญ่ จึงสร้างหอดูสตั ว์หนองผักชีขนึ้ เพือ่ ให้นกั ท่องเทีย่ ว ได้เฝ้าดูสัตว์ท่ีลงมากินหญ้าในช่วงตอนเช้าตรู่ และเย็นย�่ำ
•น�้ำตกผากล้วยไม้ เป็นผาน�้ำตกที่ไม่สูงชันมาก นั ก แต่ ร ะหว่ า งทางนั ก ท่ อ งเที่ ย วจะได้ พ บกั บ ดอกกล้ ว ยไม้ ห ลายชนิ ด โดยเฉพาะกล้ ว ยไม้ หวายแดงซึง่ จะออกดอกในเดือนเมษายน และเมือ่ เดินลัดเลาะลึกเข้าไปอีกหน่อยก็จะพบกับน�ำ้ ตกชัน้ ในที่มีความสวยงามไม่แพ้กัน
• อ่างเก็บน�ำ้ สายศร ชือ่ เดิมของอ่างเก็บน�ำ้ สายศร คืออ่างเก็บน�้ำมอสิงโต ซึ่งตั้งชื่อตามเขามอสิงโต ทีบ่ ริเวณใกล้ๆ กัน ต่อมาเปลีย่ นชือ่ เป็นอ่างเก็บน�ำ้ สายศร ตามชื่อของนายบุญเรือง สายศร อดีต หัวหน้าอุทยานแห่งชาติเขาใหญ่คนแรก อ่างเก็บน�ำ้ นี้เป็นแหล่งน�้ำส�ำคัญส�ำหรับการอุปโภคบริโภค ของทั้งคนและสัตว์
• น�ำ้ ตกเหวสุวตั มีความสูงอยูท่ ปี่ ระมาณ 25 เมตร นิยมท่องเทีย่ วกันในฤดูฝน แต่หากมาเทีย่ วในฤดูรอ้ น ก็จะสามารถเดินลอดเข้าไปยังผาใต้น�้ำตกได้
• จุดชมวิว กม.30 เป็นจุดชมวิวจุดสุดท้ายก่อน ออกจากอุทยานแห่งชาติเขาใหญ่ บริเวณนีจ้ ะเห็น ภูเขาเรียงรายซ้อนกันไปมา เขาลูกที่อยู่ทางซ้าย มือของจุดชมวิวแห่งนี้คือเขาลูกช้าง เวลาโพล้เพล้ ค้างคาวจะบินออกจากถ�้ำเป็นแถวยาว เพื่อออก ไปหาอาหารตัดกับผืนฟ้าอันกว้างใหญ่สุดลูกหู ลูกตา
• จุดชมวิวผาเดียวดาย เป็นเส้นทางศึกษาธรรมชาติ ที่มีความอุดมสมบูรณ์ของพืชพรรณมาก มีทั้งไม้ ส�ำคัญทางเศรษฐกิจ ยกตัวอย่างเช่น ไม้กฤษณา และมีนกหายากมากมาย ไม่ว่าจะเป็นนกเงือก นกปรอดด�ำ นกแซงแซวหางบ่วง เป็นต้น • จุดชมวิวผาตรอมใจ ผาตรอมใจแห่งนีเ้ ป็นพืน้ ที่ ทีอ่ ยูห่ า่ งไกลจากจุดท่องเทีย่ วอืน่ และเป็นเขตทหาร ของศูนย์เรดาร์กองทัพอากาศ ท�ำให้ค่อนข้างจะ เงียบสงบ ช่างภาพมักมาเก็บภาพนกหลากหลาย ชนิดกันที่นี่ 11

• Haew Narok Waterfall is the tallest and most beautiful waterfall in all of Khao Yai National park. It is best to travel there during September- October of every year to witness it at its peak. 10am in the morning is the time when sunlight gleams most beautifully and rainbows appear to shine.
• Haew Suwat Waterfall is 25 meters high, mostly traveled to during the rainy seasons, but if you plan to visit in the summer, make sure to take a stroll right into the cave under the waterfall. • Pha Diew Dai Viewpoint is a pathway to discover the abundant plant species of K hao Yai, some are economically significant such as Eagle Wood, and various bird species including the Hornbill, the Black Bulbul, the RacketTailed Drongo etc.
• Pha Gluay Mai Waterfall isn’t too steep, but along the way up travelers w ill w it ness var ious beaut i f ul orchids, especially Whai Daeng orchids which blooms during April. If you stroll a little more you will finally meet the refreshing Pha Gluay Mai Waterfall. 12

• Pha Trom Jai is located far from other travel destinations, it is in the vicinity of the Radar of the Royal Airforce and thus is very peaceful. Most photographers come here to take pictures of various bird species. • Nong Pak Chee reservoir used to be a place where locals would invade inorder to grow chili and parsley. Orders for evacuation resulted in abundant food source for wildlife. There is an observation tower for travelers to enjoy watching as animals come out for food in the early mornings and evenings. • Saisorn Reservior was initially called, “Moh Singtoh Reservior” after the Moh Singtoh mountain nearby. Later it was named “Saisorn” after Boonreung Saisorn, first and former chief of Khao Yai National Park. The reservoir provides a main source of water for both humans and animals. • V iew poi nt K m. 30 is the la st viewpoint before exiting Khao Yai National Park. Here you will witness a crowd of vast mountains in the distance, the one on your left is Lok Chang mountain that if the timing is right you will see a swarm of bats flying out of their cave, a misty black against the vast blue sky, searching for food. 13

This vehicle was the invention of Group Captain Luean Phongsophon, a Koratborn gentleman, whose application of a bicycle to a rickshaw worked out really well. SALA LOI TEMPLE This temple is used to house the ashes of Thao Suranari, the legendary savior of the city. Its highlight is the convocation hall – the design of which applied Thai style art in the shape of a junk riding the waves. The hall is decorated with Dan Kwian clay tiles and once was awarded the prize as the best avant-garde religious building from the Siam Architects Society in 1973.
