professional work concept | site diagrams As decisions are made with respect to orientation of the building, priorities must be established. This analysis has concluded that the primary orientation priority is to the northeast, to the Central Park as well as the most dominant source of traffic to the site from the center of Chengdu. The second most important orientation is to the east where Expo City’s commercial development will be located and integrated into the adjacent CBD and residential district. The third priority is toward the south where views are significant but the highway limits the possibility of direct access. With a curving, linear arrangement of the exhibit halls that reaches to the north end of the large block, it is possible to bridge across the street to connect directly to the Conference Center and the Business Center, resulting in a unified and well-connected exhibition and conference complex. This overall linear form further influences the placement of the Planning Pavilion and joins with the planned development to the north to create a continuous curved eastern built edge to the Park. The open space of the park is swept into the exhibition center site as the outdoor exhibit Grand Plaza. This solution to the Master Plan is a bold, grand gesture that bridges across multiple blocks, captures a significant open space & connects to all adjacent development.

professional work design concept The overall space is flowing and dynamic. A dramatic white gloss ceiling acts as a continuous ribbon suspended above the entry, weaving its way into the Gallery and ending above a Gathering Area. Reminiscent of the beautiful eyewear, a sinuous and delicate LED light fixture frames the undulating ceiling form. The overall spatial sequences starts at the Reception and Lounge. Across the way guests are greeted by the Brand logo on a white curved wall. A 75” monitor nearby acts as a active screen rotating through Silhouette’s classic and current Ad Campaigns. A permanent display area is in direct sightline from all sides of the Gallery. The focal point here is an illuminated recessed niche where the latest collections are showcased. Directly in front are circular and curved shaped vitrines that are light in weight, allowing them to be relocated when needed. Silhouette’s History and Iconic pieces are placed adjacent to the Reception Area where visiting guests can immerse themselves in the story of meticulously crafted engineering and artistry. Cantilevered clear glass jewel cases exhibit the Brand’s classic collections. In a bright corner is the Library with sinous built-in lounge seating. The Consultation area is located along the large windows taking advantage of the natural daylight. At the center of the Gathering area is a bar that can be utilized for special events as well as for day-to-day tasks. Set to one side of the Gallery Entry is the Conference and Private Sales Area. This space has the flexibility to be divided into two meeting spaecs, providing separate entries and a movable panel at the center of the room. In keeping with the Silhouette’s Identity, the base palette consists predominantly of clean white finishes. Light grey polished concrete spreads across the floor while a darker tone hand-knotted silk area rug anchors the reception zone providing soft texture. A second option showing wood flooring is provided, showcasing a warmer tone in the space. The existing columns are left exposed and finished in glossy white while window mullions are coated in black.

anchor node mixed-use
my work anchor node mixed-use | fayetteville, arkansas | design vii - uacdc cultural arts district boundary designation
university of arkansas
University of Arkansas Community Design Center (UACDC), in collaboration with local cultural institutions, was awarded federal funding to develop an anchor for the emerging arts district in Downtown Fayetteville. The project lies at the center of the cultural hub for the 500,000-person region, but its physical environment is fragmented by publicly-owned surface parking lots and oversized streets. High traffic speeds inappropriate in a downtown
walton arts center
setting dominate the patron experience. Infill development, particularly the supply of urban housing, has not kept pace with the demand for downtown living. The project’s four-acre general focus area has been included in the city’s designated cultural arts district since its
site
creation four years ago, but development of the district has been characterized by ad hoc projects. No overarching vision guides the district. downtown square
To reorient downtown development interests towards an explicit cultural purpose, plans were developed for a walkable mixed-use, mixed-income housing complex (which includes subsidized live-work units for artists). The proposed scheme includes a planned retrofit of
fayetteville public library
West Avenue as an arts-focused complete street adjoining Walton Arts Center (WAC). The goal is to create a district anchor to complement the forthcoming renovation of WAC, $20 million expansion of the Fayetteville Public Library, and $6+ million construction, as well as the construction of an adjacent mixed-use municipal parking structure. The challenge is to overcome the local development community’s tendency to meet housing demand through the application of suburban solutions in the development of downtown.

The shared street condition is both to slow down the vehicular traffic as well as enhance the pedistrian experience. The size of the plaza was determined by various events held at the location such as the annual Bikes, Blues, and BBQ. During such events the allowable space will over flow across the street to encompose additional square footage.

The main driver for the renovation is to create functional space and circulation that moves along to space traveling from most public to most private. As circulation moves along the South wall you are pushed through a compressed hallway and released into the more expansive studio spaces. The South exterior wall is fully glazed with operable sliding panels on the interior. The panels provide shading from the harsh South sun on the exterior as well as supplies pin-up space on the interior for the studio.

The idea of the creative corridor is to provoke change and to incorporate the new typology of a mediatheque into the fabrication of downtown Little Rock. The building stands at the corner of Markham and Main Street creating an anchor for the start of the corridor. The building is organized programmatically in a hierarchy of most public spaces at the bottom to most private at the top. The building pulls one from the street and pushes oneself through the building. Then, releases one back to the exterior on the roof terrace that overlooks the Arkansas River.

N lyceum competition | bonneville salt flats, utah | design vi 20,000 square feet A zero energy rest area located at the intersection of the Great Salt Lake Desert and Interstate 80 in the Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah. The rest area provides 5,000 square feet of space for “experience of place” as well as additional spaces for engaging the specific context of the place including cafe, lodging, and restrooms. The project engages a proposed land art installation entitled “Earth Curvature” that was initiated by an inquiry from Bill Timmerman about how to experience the curvature of earth. The Land Art Installation consists of 341 logarithmically decreasing spaced poles from a straight line in space intersecting the curvature of the earth at the site. A passive audience of continuous traffic partakes in the art piece at high speeds and in a span of 20-40 minutes one can experience the curvature of the earth.

my work exterior & interior perspective renderings The Great Salt Flats Desert is an infinite illusion of depth that spans the horizon. The sun radiates across the expanse with only the darkness of night as relief. The building becomes a refuge for the body from the harsh landscape and welcomes oneself into a shaded and cool environment. The stark comparisons of conflicting dichotomies throughout the building, such as expansion and compression, sends oneself through an unique emotional experience. The building runs along the axis of the landart installation pulling the public into the space and pushing them back out towards the horizon on the East and West ends.

N urban mausoleum | chicago, illinois | design iv 150,000 Square Feet A Public, urban, interfaith mausoleum and columbarium located on the Northwest corner of Illinois Street and State Street in Chicago, Illinois. The mausoleum emphasises organic movement and the delicate transition of the horizontal to the vertical. This is carried out by arraying the primitive around a central node and projecting it vertically forcing the mass to twist. Transformed primitives are pinched, folded, and pulled into the space where it punctures the central core of circulation and is released at the bottom and out onto the exterior. Both of these movements reveal articulations on the facade as well as create aperures at the top and bottom. The ornamental striations on the exterior emphasize verticality while expressing depth.
