Floating Cells Kiribati - Tarawa Island Senior Project
KHWLAH KASEM AGHA RESEARCH PROBLEM
“ Everybody has the right to live on it but now, it seems like the sea has taken that away ”
Global warming is melting polar icecaps, glaciers and ice sheets that cover the Greenland, causing sea levels to rise, which is destroying houses, taking lives, and causing islands and cultures to vanish.
Studies stated that Kiribati will soon be swallowed up by the sea due to climate change. Two of Kiribati’s atolls Tebua and Abanuea disappeared in 1999.
“ I just want the world to know that we need help to protect our land, the waves are stronger and we don’t know what option we have ”
“ My children are worried and they are thinking what other place they can go to. This is the only piece of land for us and we love it here ”

When the water is low, the building rests on the ground like a conventional building. During floods and water rising levels, it floats on water with the help of buoyancy barrels and the guidance vertical posts that allows it to move up and down along with the water level.
