Scott Wootton is a strong and cultured central defender who first broke into the U18s side as a schoolboy at the back end of the 2006/07 campaign. A former Liverpool youth player, Wootton made the switch in 2007 and has impressed at United ever since. "He's a very reliable central defender," says U18s boss Paul McGuinness. "Reliability is something you always want from a defender. Scott tends to do the right things and is a good decision-maker on the pitch. "He gets into the right positions and has a good understanding of safety and risk. He looks like he's got good potential to be a good talker and a leader, which you need at the back." Sure enough, Wootton evolved into the U18s' captain during 2009/10, and was also regularly stepped up to Reserve team duty, where he will feature more prominently in 2010/11.
28/10/10 5:54 PM: Tranmere dumped Stockport out of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy with a 4-3 penalty shoot-out win.Scott Wootton played the entire match and scored in the penalty shoot-out. Rovers manager Les Parry said: "He did really well for us last time and showed what a talented young player he is. With injuries to Marlon Broomes, Jermaine Grandison and Tim Cathalina he gives us extra defensive options. "I'd like to thank Manchester United for allowing him to return to us."
