Child Guardianship Letter

Child Guardianship Letter Writing A letter of guardship, or letter of guardianship, is a letter that is used to transfer temporary guardianship from the parents of a child to another adult. This is especially useful if a child’s parents have to travel abroad for a period of time and they wont be able to carry out their parental duties. By writing this letter, the parents of the child transfer all their rights and obligations over to someone else, who is then obliged to care for the children. It is extremely important to include a specific time period where this letter will be valid, as not to create any confusion. Before you assign your rights as a parent over to someone else, make sure you trust them and they fully understand what their responsibilities are. Parents who will be away from a child for an extended period of time need a guardianship letter. Guardianship letters give people the right to temporarily look after children. The letter does not transfer custody of the child to the guardian, nor does it require drafting by legal counsel. Writing a guardianship letter over to an adult child, for example, may be necessary if a parent is going out of town on business for several months. The guardianship letter is a binding document that gives the adult child permission to look after a minor and make decisions on the minor's behalf while the parent is away.
