A minute with...

Ellie-Mai Lyme, Records Clerk, and Matt Kilner, Technical Assistant.

If you could have a superpower what would it be? E. Invisibility -you could be anywhere at any time and no one would know. M. The ability to stop time. A few more hours in the day would be useful. Do you have any phobias? E. Rats, even the thought of them makes me shiver! M. Bot flies (google them). If you could be anything/anyone for one day what/who would you be? E. Marilyn Monroe, the secrets that woman must have. M. Neil Armstrong or Buzz Aldrin on 20 July 1969 so I could be the first to walk on the moon (or to find out whether the 1969 moon landing was a hoax). If you had a time machine that will allow you to take one trip, what point in the future or past would you visit? E. 100 years into the future, we know what happened in the past, the future is completely unknown. M. I’m tempted to say 20,000 years in the future, but it would be so depressing if I got there and found out that humanity wasn’t around anymore. There’s also a good chance I wouldn’t be able to comprehend the world in 20,000 years’ time. To avoid ruining my life in the present by finding out that humanity doesn’t survive, and to avoid being baffled and confused by mind boggling languages and technologies, I’ll go with 100 years in the future. 2117. 100 years would be mind blowing, but with less of the risks associated with travelling forward millennia. What do you like most about Kilburn & Strode? E. The people and the monthly drinks M. They were great guys.

K&S Kitchen Victoria Barker’s Coconut Flapjacks Serves 3-4 people Ingredients 120g plain flour 200g caster sugar 100g oats 85g unsweetened desiccated coconut 125g butter 1 tbsp golden syrup 1 level tsp bicarbonate of soda

How? Preheat the oven to 170°C. Grease a 20cm square tin. Mix the dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Put the butter in a pan with the golden syrup and melt together. Pour the butter/syrup over the dry ingredients and mix well. Tip the mixture into tin and press down. Bake for 20 minutes, then allow to cool in the tray for a few minutes before cutting into slices. This works well with dairy free margarine for a vegan version. Alternatively, they can be made gluten free with GF flour and oats. I sometimes make a “healthier” version by halving the sugar, swapping honey for the syrup and adding 100g of dried fruit. 10
