Public Library Project Wisdom Mirage

The concept of the Wisdom Mirage is not only creating the mirage effect for users but also encouraging discovery feeling throughout the space. Application of the concept to the space is gathering users who may have different interests, age, culture and other specialities. The Wisdom Mirage also offers users unique moments as well as different spatial perspectives while providing fundamental requirements of public libraries. Also, the library includes more than just fundamental requirements of public library, such as visual arts, and abstract arts workshops. In the light of this, the Wisdom Mirage functions as not only public library but also community center at the same time. Application of the concept: The main application is creating a core distrubition space (also vertical and horizontal circulation core) that is connected by three different meeting and gathering areas of library, and workshop areas. These three also are connected to their own parts (workshop areas) which will give users to the feeling of space into different spaces (mirage & reflection) feeling.

Parameters used for applicatin of concept: - Architectural program requirements - Flowing & moving structure and forms - Area seperation for different functions - Material selection and their applications - Creating controlled lightning & light intensity

Denver Public Library is located at intersection of East Colfax & Park Ave which is a pinnacle point of circulation of the Denver metro area. Therefore, vehicle and pedesterian transportation plays a key role in this area that could be considered as a primary factor that shapes the form and its placement. Also, the site guides the designer to consider which edges are suitable for entrance and exiting from the building by determining intensity of circulation throughout the site. In the light of these, initial consideration to place the structure would aim to manage function of the circulation of the site.

Study Model I

The second consideriation for mass placement of the structure is determining the function of the internal spaces that are highly correlated with the outer space. Since it is a public library design, main library area, reading areas and contemplation areas were decided to be located at the least loud areas of the Colfax & Park Avenue that will help to maintain suitability and practicability of these library areas.

Since lightning is one of the most important factors for libraries, most of the core areas of the public library are designed to be able to receive convenient amount of lightning.

In addition, since materiality is one of the most significant factor to be considered for libraries, materials are frequently analyzed to be able to create not only functionally effective spaces but also to give spaces their own unique characteristics.

On the other hand, importance of dramatic lightning is considered to be able to create unique feelings for users when they circulate around the library.

There are also more effective solutions for core library area other than just selecting appropriate materials. For instance, these bookshelves placed along with the glass surfaces function as sun breakers that help to maintain controlled lightning in the reading and studying areas.

Furthermore, creating controlled lightning is fundamental requirement for both individual and contemplation areas. By providing controlled lightning for different areas in the library creates more opportunity to choose for users.

On the other hand, material selections and their applications enable to create effective area seperations for different functions such as core area, workshop area, and circulation area.

Additionally, flowing structure of the library enables users to perceive spaces in a different and unique spatial perspectives which is a complementary element of the concept of the building.

The form of the core area creates an continuous circulation cycle inside of the building that is connected with the entrance and exiting circulation paths which enable users to circulate in an effective way throughtout the library.

TRANSPORTATION HUB The Hub for Transferring, Transporting, Transpassing in Kadıköy

Kadıköy Transportation Hub project is located in Söğüclücesme region in İstanbul. The place can be described as a transportation node of Kadıköy. Therefore, this hub for transferring, transporting and transpassing plays a crucial role for its surroundings and people’s life. It is not only connecting far distances, but also creating an environment that also compensates peoples needs while they are in motion. Thus, the overall design approach considers connectivity, social context and the district that surrounds the hub. The walkways are designed for achieving the main targets like metrobus station, Marmaray metro station and Ankara-Istanbul high speed train station in the shortes time periods. Furthermore, the architectural program contains commercial and cultural spaces, which also draw attention of different groups of people in community. Green areas and Kurbağalıdere river are re-organized in order to solve one of the general issue of İstanbul, which is open, green public space’s inexistance. The design of Transportaion Hub is created by the inspration of İstanbul’s non-stop life style. Therefore, there is an understanding of avoiding egdes and sustaining continuity when the form considered.

HUNGARY EXPO CENTER Istanbul EXPO Center Project

Hungary EXPO Center Project’s design is based on historical events happened in the past of Hungary. Capital city of Budapest was two distinct cities which were have different cultural aspects, economies and life styles. These two different cities were called Buda and Pest before they were merged as a one single city in 17 November 1873. My design is an abstraction of merging these two cities andI have designed an adult education center in Kuzguncuk connection of these cities with the bridges to each other. which is located in Istanbul. Site Analysis

Initial Models

The analysis provides some data concerning layers of the surrounding environment that can be used to comprehend slope, height, and transition with other layers. Also, it shows all of the surrounding elements such as roads, ocean and forest masses, which create an insight to understand the distribution of these elements on the terrain. Traffic Congestion Analysis

Initial Design Strategy Kuzguncuk has many historical landmarks, and each of them displays an unique characteristic. All together, they form a town of beauty and elagance, Kuzguncuk, which indeed is very rare to run intonowadays. The analysis demonstrates the names, locations, and distribution of the landmarks. Structure Analysis

- Interpretation of the building order of existing surrounding.

- Creation of accesible and linked spaces.

- Bringing nature inside the area. The emptiness analysis shows the ratio of compactness of the whole area. For instance, solid and dense masses such ocean and forest masses are shown as black. Conversely, more intermittent elements such as highways and residental area are displyed as white.

BRIDGE DESIGN Özyeğin University Campus Bridge Design

The ‘Özyeğin Campus Bridge’ was designed for the final project of the Parametric Design Course. This computer aided design was created by the help of a computer programme, which called ‘Grasshopper’. The concept was ‘Flow’, therefore, sinus graph was the main source of inspiration. While the supporting sutructure undulates irregularly, the slab fallows this movement in a smoother way. Whole structure also tightens through the core of the bridge and continues the effect of ‘Flow’. For strengthening the load bearing structure, the ‘Voronoi Structure’ was used. This pattern also generated different shapes of shadows for the users.

MULTICULTURALHOUSING Kuzguncuk Community Housing Project

Kuzguncuk Community Housing Project’s design is aiming to create a space for families who have different cultural aspects. By using form demonstrated at image, I aimed to give these families to interact each other efficiently by preserving their personal privacy. The form enables users to interact each other when they prefer, however, the openings and main circulation area are limited to see each other every time of the day.

Fibonacci Shelter

43

The “Fibonacci Shelter’’ project is basicly a mobile unit for kiosks. It creates a vivid living space underneath it. The design of this unit insiperd by Fibonacci and his famous theorem which called ‘‘Fibonacci Sequence’’. The relationship, he found, in between mathematics and the nature of growing trees interpreted, transformed and emerged as a new form of living space in this project. The amounts and the sizes of branches can be altered according to the his algorithm in order to create diverse types of spaces. In spite of the fact that the trees are very elastic creatures, they are also known as solid and durable things. Therefore, the structure of the ‘‘Fibonacci Shelter’’ aimed to display these features of trees. Furthermore , this structure also allows sunlight from different directions and acts like a semipermeable material for insiders.

FAMILY HOUSE DESIGN Koşuyolu Villa Project

The “Villa Koşuyolu’’ project is designed as family house in accordance with the needs of a particular family. It is located in Koşuyolu district of Istanbul where the area is settled with one ore two storey height houses and where the land is very sloped. It is known that the region can be very windy in winter time. Therefore, the family’s main request was to have a wintergarten. As a solution to that, the house covers the north-west side of the site to block the wind. It also glides from the top of the hill and rotates towards inside when reaching to the bottom of the land. This allows the dwellers to have an embraced garden with a panoramic view of the site. Ground floor is arranged for the daily activities and the first floor is totally alocated for personal spaces and bedrooms.

MODULAR PAVILION Pavilion Design Project

The pavilion design project for the basic design creates a flexible shelter for indoor and outdoor spaces. This structure proposes to allow diverse types of usages and aims to attract people into variable human and space relationships. In order to have a light appearance, the structure of this pavilion consists of cubic frames. These modules combine with each other and flow in both horizontal and vertical directions. Different colored sticks which surround each modules emerge the feeling of a colorful and warm atmosphere. Diagonal wires inside these cubic modules creates a pattern when the whole pavilion percieved at a specific distance. Furthermore, these two dimensional elements also create constant shadow shows on the ground.
