Kilkenny Photographic Society has come a long way since its
humble beginnings in 1983, when a small group of people attending night classes in photography first formed the society. Since then, the society has thrived and now has over 66 members and hosts weekly photographic meetings or workshops, with guest and local speakers, competitions and outdoor meets (photography trips). Our talented members have produced photographic works that have received international acclaim and have achieved the highest accolades of photographic excellence in the country. This year has been a particularly successful year for the society, with a number of members attaining distinctions from the Irish Photographic Federation (IPF) and International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP) and Royal Photographic Society(RPS). I must compliment Karen O’Hara, who achieved the prestigious Fellowship award, the highest distinction offered by the IPF. This exhibition contains the successful distinction panels and also a selection of the work chosen to represent the club in Southern Association of Camera Clubs(SACC) and IPF National competitions. However, the main focus of this, our 36th exhibition is to give the members of the society the opportunity to express their own individual styles and artistic flair. This is evident by the diverse and varied nature of the exhibition. We also have a second permanent exhibition of members work on display at St Luke’s Hospital Kilkenny which showcases the developing talent in our club. I wish to thank the organising committee for doing a splendid job, our sponsors for their generous and continued support, and the members for submitting their work. A special thank you to McDonagh Junction for providing us with this wonderful venue for the last number of years. Finally, I wish to thank you for visiting and hope you enjoy this superb exhibition of photography. I would encourage you to please spread the word and give others the opportunity to enjoy it also.
