REPORTER WISH LIST THESE ARE A FEW OF OUR FAVOURITE THINGS... Nail it!

Tiffany lamps

MAKE sure you nail your new autumn look with some of this seasons new colours. From watery blue tones to earthy plums, nails are making a strong appearance thanks to stars such as Rhianna, Katy Perry and Kelly Rowland who choose a multicoloured look on X Factor recently. This ‘660 I’m A Star’ shade from Catrice is bang on trend and will complement all the incoming autumn and winter colours brilliantly. Catrice nail varnish is available from Dunnes Stores and Penneys. Prices start at €2.79.

Autumn is upon us and with it the scarce evening light slips away. Lighting has again become an important element of home design as we try to retain the colour and vibrancy of high summer. There is no more colourful lighting than artglass Tiffany-style lamps such as these from ‘Yesterdays’. Each lamp is handmade by skilled craftsmen yet they are surprisingly affordable and will stand the test of time in terms of durability and changing trends. Loretta Mini Table Lamp €89.95 and Tulip Pattern Lamp - €339.

Love from Australia

Kilkenny postman Mark Taylor

Fish food BRINGING a taste of the tropics to Kilkenny, Coral Bay has opened its second branch in Market Cross. Coral Bay offers treatments by Garra Rufa fish. These minnow sized fish gently nibble away on the hard and dead skin on the feet while salving the skin with a mild antiseptic lubricant called Ditranol. The feet feel refreshingly smooth after treatment and have been known to boost circulation and stimulate acupuncture points. Cost is €12 for 15 minutes or €20 for a half hour.

TIPPED to be ‘Love From Australia’s’ most wanted boot this winter the ‘Biker’ comes in two lengths and in both plain and nappa tanned sheepskin with outer zip and two chunky branded alloy buckles to fasten. Available in caramel, choc, black, gunmetal, bronze and silver this is definitely the sheepskin boot to be seen in

this winter. Prices start at €228 for the short and €263 for the tall. See www.lovefromaustralia.com for a full list of stockists.

Accessorize in style

Loreto Secondary School students Laura Murphy 5th year and Moya O’Sullivan 4th year

WITH snow forecast for early as October this year it’s time to start thinking about investing in a warm pair of gloves. These gorgeous snowflake cut off gloves from the ‘Lily’ collection at Accessorize will keep you toasty warm while also allowing you the use off your hands. They are extra long too so you will be cosy right up to your elbows and the colour will match any coat you already have.

Perfect parka A PARKA is the hottest coat to be seen in this winter but unfortunately many of them are not heavy enough or warm enough to see you through the season. However Topshop have come up trumps with this fur lined and fur sleeved number. With its drawstring waist and classic fishtail its also extremely flattering on. Who said it’s not possible to be warm and stylish at the same time!

Bags of appeal GREET the new season in style with this gorgeous red bag from Wallis. Perfect for a night out, work or even a trip to town, there’s no occasion that wouldn’t be made better with the addition of a shiny red handbag. This would also make a lovely Christmas present so get hinting early and often!

Bionic eyes NEOSTRATA products are renowned for their transformative effects on wrinkles and problem skin. But did you know they also do a range for sensitive skin including ‘Bionic Eye Cream’ that targets dark eye circles, puffiness and reduces the visible signs of ageing in the delicate eye area. Formulated with 3% Gluconolactone, 1% Lactobionic acid, Vitamin K, Pro-Vitamin A and Vitamin E it also contains green tea extract and cucumber extract is ophthalmologist tested and is fragrance-free. Available from Bliss Beauty, Rose Inn Street or from www.blissbeauty.ie.

Book of the week FOOD is not just sustenance. It is memories, heritage, guilty pleasures and identity. Food is the sensuality of a ripe strawberry or a pork chop sizzling on the grill. But what if the very thing that keeps you alive, that bonds us together and marks occasions in our lives, became a toxic substance, an inflammatory invader?

In ‘The Man Who Couldn’t Eat,’ Jon Reiner explores our complex and often contradictory relationship with food as he tells the story of his agonizing battle with Crohn’s Disease – and the extraordinary places his hunger and obsession with food took him. The beautifully written memoir is both gut wrenching and inspiring.

Product of the week SOMETIMES you want to touch. Sometimes you need to type. With the new touchsensitive, flash-capable Inspiron duo convertible tablet from Dell, you can do both in style. The innovative flip design lets you switch from touch to type in seconds. You can also listen to music, use an alarm clock or view your

photos with the duo Audio Station as well as read books, watch movies and play games. Available from €479 on www.dell.com/ie. It’s also available through Littlewoods where you have the option to spread the cost by opening a flexible account.

28 | ARTS & ENTS FILM 30 Minutes of Less Director Rueben Fleischer

J

esse Eisenberg re-teams with the director of ‘Zombieland’ for a film which delivers as many laughs but will unfortunately last in your memory as long as the title. Here Jesse once again plays a slacker character. This time he works as a pizza delivery boy who lives with his best friend ,Chet (Azis Ansari) but is in love with Chet’s sister (Dilshad Vadsaria). Meanwhile Dwayne(Danny McBride) is tired of his demanding father (Fred Ward) and decides to kill him to inherit his millions. In a convoluted twist Dwayne decides to strap a bomb vest on Eisenberg to make him rob a bank so he can pay a Hispanic assassin (Michael Pena) to off his dad. The film moves at such a pace that you are not allowed for a second to think about the absurdity of the setup. Enough gags are strewn in front of you so that the question that nags you afterward is not asked during the movie. If he is prepared to kill Eisenberg ,a stranger who they have no ill feeling towards why can’t he murder his asshole father himself? The bomb vest which McBride’s friend builds seems a little beyond either of their intelligence also. The lack of logic is compensated by that rarest of quantities in a comedy this year- laughs. It is fitfully very funny. Eisenberg is

KILKENNY REPORTER 21 09 2011

enjoying himself in this throwaway role after the ponderous Oscar baiting of ‘The Social Network’. I’m sure after the hundred or so takes that David Fincher demands of his actors on each take it must have been a relief to do some improvisation with his old buddy Fleishcher. His pairing with Ansari is inspired. The two actors work really well together and their bickering friendship is very believable. McBride who after the fiasco of ‘Your Highness’ proves that his obnoxious persona and bad haircut is more suited to playing a villain than a lead. For people who don’t enjoy fratboy humour or politically incorrect comments this is probably one to avoid. In the later scenes some of the comic book violence becomes a little extreme and distasteful also. However unlike the dozens of bland flicks this summer which were supposedly hilarious this delivers two sympathetic leads in a genuinely witty movie. What is deeply saddening is that American television comedy is going through one of it’s Golden Ages but Hollywood is failing to capitalize on it. Either Ansari in ‘Parks and Recreation’ or McBride in ‘Eastbound and Down’ is superior to this attempt. So if you want a good few hours of laughter I suggest you buy the boxsets of the following comedy series‘Community’,’30 Rock’ or ‘Modern Family’ . If you want 80 minutes of cinema that will distract you for it’s duration and then immediately be forgotten you could do a lot worse than this. - DARRAGH BYRNE
