De Dannan to headline Milltown festival

Internationally renowned traditional music supremos Frankie Gavin and De Dannan are heading to Milltown on the August Bank Holiday Weekend to perform at the Féile Lughnasadh festival.

The award-winning band who have been a feature of the Irish music scene for almost 50 years will perform open-air in the Square in Milltown on August 5.

The Féile Lughnasadh festival is run by the Milltown-Listry branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann.

It features four days of free concerts, céilís, music and singing sessions, workshops, and family fun, all of which is centred on the ancient harvest festival of Lughnasadh. The festival opens on August 4 with a special Lughnasadh parade and bonfire.

“Myself and the band are really looking forward to our concert in Milltown on August 5.

I have a phenomenal team with me for the festival. We decided to get back on the road and perform after a long rest as in recent times I had a health scare but happily survived all the treatments for oesophageal cancer,” said Gavin.

“Life is wonderful again and the music means more to me now than ever, I’d say. A new and different appreciation of our traditional music, or indeed, a new perspective altogether you might say.”
