illarney, Co. Kerry is one of Ireland’s best loved destinations. Over 26,000 acres of National Park offer numerous

trails. Set at the foot of the majestic McGillycuddy Reeks mountain range the park also boasts the three world

famous Lakes of Killarney. Killarney town is well known for its excellent shops, restaurants and cosmopolitan appeal. During summer months the lively on-street musical entertainment is enjoyed by tourists and locals alike. On bright evenings one can browse in a

bookstore, admire art, or savour the delights of homemade ice cream or a creamy pint of Guinness. The traditional way to tour all of the local 'beauty spots' is by Jaunting Car (local 'unique' horse drawn carriage), in the company of a 'Jarvey' (driver and guide) who will spin the 'old stories' at every corner on the road. Jaunting Cars are available for large groups and independent travellers. Tours include The Lakes, Ross Castle, Muckross House and Gardens, Torc Waterfall, Gap of Dunloe and just about anywhere in Killarney you might want to visit.

he focal point of the National Park and a ‘must see’ attraction is Muckross House, Gardens and Traditional

Farms. Dating from 1843 it is a former private residence, now open to the public, where you can view the

children's toys, the historic Killarney furniture of the library & drawing room and the famous specially prepared bedroom where Queen Victoria slept during her visit in 1861. At Muckross Traditional Farms you are invited to take a glimpse into the past, to a time before the advent of electricity when all work was carried out using traditional methods. Meet and chat with the farmers and their wives as they go about their daily work in the houses, on the land and with the animals. Visitors can also enjoy a complimentary trip aboard the Muckross Vintage Coach which circulates the farms. Groups may arrange private events on the farms, supper by the fire listening to the tales of a ‘seanchai’ (a local storyteller) or a summer’s evening enjoying Irish music and dance in the most traditional of settings.

GAP OF DUNLOE Photo by Olivier Thierry

T

he Gap of Dunloe is one of the most stunningly beautiful parts of County Kerry and indeed Ireland. Stretching

through the McGillycuddy Reeks mountain range, this beautiful glacial valley simply must be experienced to

be appreciated.

The Tour… Guests of The Europe Hotel & Resort and Hotel Dunloe Castle can be collected from the front door of their hotel for this memorable trip. The tour begins with a short coach journey to Kate Kearney's Cottage where you can take a jaunting car or go on horseback through the six mile pass. This winding road meanders through the gap as the mountains rise above you bringing you to the shores of the lake which sits at the far side of the valley. Once through the gap, boats are waiting at Lord Brandon’s Cottage for the homeward journey via the enchanting Upper, Middle & Lower Lakes to historic Ross Castle where coaches await you for the journey back to Killarney. Refreshments such as a packed lunch or BBQ can be arranged at Lord Brandon's cottage upon request. Groups which are taking part in the Gap of Dunloe Tour, can, by prior arrangement, return by boat directly to The Europe Hotel & Resort’s own private pier.
