DODGE DEMON’S LAST HURRAH!

Dodge is well-known for doing things a little differently when unveiling a new car – especially something like the Dodge Demon. Those sitting around the table that makes all of those marketing decisions, decided to use their own event – the Dodge Last Call (in collaboration with MotorTrend) to launch their 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170. And instead of driving it out onto the drag strip amongst much hype and guitar driven background music, the ultimate Challenger was flown in via Helicopter – hanging on a platform before being dropped onto the strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. It certainly made an entrance, and will be fondly remembered by all that was in attendance… So what makes this one so special? Well, for starters, it’s the last in the Hellcat range, so you know Dodge are going to go out with a bang! The numbers don’t lie. How does a 0-100klm in 1.66-seconds sound? Producing that type of grunt comes from the Demon’s 1350hp (at the engine) which also gives the ‘170’ a top speed of in excess of 215mph (over 340klm/h!) and a wheels-up quarter-mile time of 8.90-seconds making it the world’s first 8-second production car! Hell, it even comes with a parachute! At this stage, Dodge claims the starting price will be $96,666 plus taxes etc – but that’s before the dealers take advantage of the limited supply and send pricing through the roof. So I’m guessing that to own one (of which there are 3000 planned for the US and just 300 for Canada), you’d either have to be on the board of Directors at Dodge, head up a major Bank or have connections in Dubai. Good luck with it if you’re in the market.
