It’s been very encouraging and we’re so pleased it’s had such a great response. This edition has been written to help start-ups who are at the very beginning of their business journey and are considering where to start with their logo design. Do you know somebody who would benefit from a bit of advice? Why not share our ‘Benefits of having a strong logo’ on page 4 and help them start off in the right direction. Each month our focus will change and for July’s edition we will be covering topics to help you write a brief or set a design budget. Did you stay on the site and try and try to decipher it or close it straight away and move to a sleek, simple modern site? The site may have had all the information you needed, the company may have been successful, but if their website looks old fashioned and too complex you won’t want stay to find out. THERE’S AN APP FOR THAT!

1

Instagram Cost: free

What does it do? Instagram lets you add filters and frames to your photos then upload them to share with your friends and followers on the site, as well as share it on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Flickr. It crops your photos into a square shape, unlike many other apps which use the standard phone camera aspect ratio (4:3). You can also share up to 15 seconds worth of video on the site, which you can similarly edit and improve as much as you wish. It is available on all Apple and Windows devices as well as most smart phones and android devices. Why is it so great? It’s free, which is always great! We guessed you would already know about this app but it’s definitely still worth a mention. For those who don’t want a confusingly clever photography app or an expensive camera, Instagram can make your photos look elegant without spending money. It not only lets you edit your pictures, but see other users creations. You can comment and like their photos or share them yourself. You not only share your perfectly edited photos but you can catch up with your

friends and view their photos as well.

Facetune

2

Cost: £1.99 What does it do? It lets you edit and perfect your photos, just like photoshop but cheaper and simpler to use. You can retouch, add filters, whiten, sharpen and focus to your hearts content, erasing any grey hairs or blemishes, even reshaping your face and then post the result online. Why is it so great? Facetune calls itself a ‘selfie editor’, tapping into the new craze for perfectly timed and edited selfies we see on social media so often these days. The best thing about this app is that there is a video explaining how to use the editor and a gallery of photos you can practice on. Then, once your photo is edited to your satisfaction you can compare it with the original and post it to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Flickr and Tumbler or email it to your friends and brag about your wonderful new editing skills.

Here is our round up of the best 4 apps for photography and photo sharing. Forget expensive cameras and professional photographer, with these apps you can trick your colleagues into believing you are a pro!

Flipagram Cost:

free

3

What does it do? Flipagram lets you create great slideshows of your facebook, Instagram and camera roll photographs. You simply select your photos, choose a title, select your music, add a voice over, set the timing and picture speed and then share your creation. Why is it so great? You can edit it how you like, add a title, voice over and photo timings to make the slideshow look just how you’d like. The app makes the slideshows long enough (or short enough) for the network you are posting to, so Instagram= 15 seconds, Flipagram= 30 seconds and so on… The best thing about this app is that you can share your Flipagram pretty much any way you want, whether it be on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Tumblr, Email, Text, Pinterest, or WhatsApp. Everyone will see your Flipagram!

ProCamera 7 Cost: £1.99

What does it do? Small businesses can’t or don’t always own card readers and so can only accept cash payments. This can be a problem for some businesses when customers do not have enough cash on them or do not wish to pay using cash. Paypal Here means that such businesses can accept payment by card or through Paypal. It can even issue invoices! Why is it so great? This app lets you ‘shoot like a pro’.Your photos can easily be edited to look like you’ve used a professional camera and not your phone camera. The app lets you alter your camera in so many ways, you will be spoilt for choice! The best things about this app is that it’s sharing feature goes one step further than other photo apps, allowing you to not only share it with the world, but save it to Dropbox for safekeeping, a nifty additional feature, especially after spending all that time editing to perfection!

SHOWCASE LOGO-DESIGN The Commonwealth Business Council strives to provide a bridge between emerging markets and developed markets internationally. Their goal is to achieve economic empowerment for shared global prosperity. We have been involved in their latest initiative for economic empowerment for women, Commonwealth Business Women. It forms part of the agenda across the 52 countries in the Commonwealth. After the first consultation it became clear the branding needed to reflect the existing CBC logo to allow for continuity.

8

SHOWCASE WEB-DESIGN It was also extremely important that new branding reflected the forward-thinking and energetic movement that CBW represent. This meant moving away from a formal style and injecting some infographic rich imagery and interactive elements into the website. The homepage features a short video (also designed by us!) and highlights their key message in a dynamic way. It’s set to the powerful Commonwealth Anthem ‘Sing’ by Gary Barlow. The video received a standing ovation when it was presented at Global Congress 2014.
