ROBERT MOORE Stroke of Nature DECEMBER 4-16, 2017 OPEN HOUSE AND ARTIST DEMONSTRATION: DECEMBER 9, 1-4 PM | SCOTTSDALE, AZ

“There is a simple and complex order in all of nature, a divinely sourced balance of harmony with diversity. My challenge as an artist is to search out how we visually perceive form and space. I then attempt to transpose this understanding and put it down on my canvas in a way that is clearly and effortlessly understood by the viewer. If I am successful, even if the viewer may not be enamored by my style or technique he or she will recognize and appreciate the order reflective of nature.” – Robert Moore

“Inspired by autumn in the Rockies, this painting takes me straight to the fresh air and majesty of the outdoors. It makes me want to go backpacking, not knowing what the next bend in the trail will bring. Acclamation, oil, 60 x 48 inches, $21,500

Back Road, oil, 24 x 30 inches, $4,500

“This was painted in southern Idaho at a familiar location. I climb this trail almost every day to get alone and spend some time in prayer. I am amazed at how beautiful this place is in every season and time of day.

Contrasts of the Season, oil, 30 x 40 inches, $9,900

“This is a painting of an aspen grove in eastern Idaho. The variety of shapes, colors, intensities, and patterns is a constant inspiration and challenge for me back at the studio. The season’s climax with its intense yellows, oranges, and reds is a brief window of time, necessitating more camera and less plein air.

Backyard Glory, oil, 24 x 48 inches, $8,500

“Considered a weed by some in this area because of its prolific nature, the hollyhock creates a beautiful array of colorful accents when found against a neutral background.

In the Woods, oil, 24 x 48 inches, $7,800

“I painted this in Montana on a beautiful summer day while on a special trip with my daughter. The road welcomes viewers to experience the same afternoon warmth and shade that we did.

“The progression from dark to light attracted me to this scene. There is a stepping of these values in every direction in nature--horizontally, vertically, and into the distance. October, oil, 48 x 48 inches, $15,100

Sunny Day, oil, 30 x 15 inches, $3,300

January Water, oil, 30 x 15 inches, $3,600

Spring Time, oil, 24 x 30 inches, $4,500

“I painted this just down the road from our home. Newborn puddles created an interesting contrast on the muddy road and reflected the wonderful April clouds. This farmscape provided ample options for dynamic compositional shapes.

Wild Roses, oil, 15 x 30 inches, $3,600

“Summer explodes in mid June with blossoming wild roses next to a country house. White stucco provides a perfect staging for the display.

Summer Sketch, oil, 12 x 24 inches, $2,400

Winter Aspen, oil, 22 x 28 inches, $3,900

“Winter puts the wide spectrum of summer and fall hues and intensities to sleep for the year, leaving beautiful grays and neutral colors. These allow me, as a color blind artist, to focus on and celebrate the rhythms, patterns, and designs in myriad aspen personalities.Â

BIOGRAPHY

Robert Moore is a multi-award winning artist whose paintings reflect his deep love and appreciation for nature’s endless beauty. Born in Burley, Idaho in 1957, he was raised near the Snake River where his appreciation for nature was sparked. Beginning in 1987, Robert attended The Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California on a full scholarship where he graduated with honors and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Illustration. He also attended Eastern Oregon State College in LaGrande, Oregon and earned a B.S. Degree in Art and a Teacher Certificate. Moore is known for his masterful use of light to show strong contrasts, such as the graceful forms of a forest interior backlit with brilliant sunlight. Whether painting a pure landscape, still-life, architectural subject or an occasional figurative, his distinctive combination of brush and palette knife, coupled with his use of heavy surface texture brings forth a passion and energy to every canvas. He frequently uses vivid colors and high-keyed values that reveal a spiritually inspired joy. A plein air artist, he works on location to best capture the immediate impression of each subject. For Robert, the variety of plein-air painting locations around his studio is virtually unlimited. Within the same county he can be inspired by 10,300-foot alpine views or the visually rich Idaho farmland. Several trips abroad, including China, Canada, and the Tuscan countryside have also inspired many canvases. In recent years, Robert has become a highly sought-after instructor and teaches multiple workshops a year. He has been profiled in numerous magazine articles including Western Art Collector, Southwest Art, Wildlife Art, Big Sky Journal and Art of the West. In 2012 he received the Governor’s Award for the state of Idaho for Excellence in the Arts. Robert Moore makes his home on a farm in the heart of the Snake River Basin in Southern Idaho with his wife Rebecca.
