o kick off the 2016 summer art season, Trailside Galleries in Jackson, Wyoming, will host its Summer Rendezvous exhibition featuring new work by represented artists. The show is far-reaching, with genres on view ranging from Western and wildlife to landscapes, seascapes and figures. Featured will be work by William Acheff, Bill Anton, Elizabeth Brandon, Jeremy Browne, Ross Buckland, Bruce Cheever, Stan Davis, John DeMott, Kathleen Dunphy, Michael Malm, Andrew Peters, Cynthia Rigden, Alfredo Rodriguez, Howard Rogers, Sueellen Ross, Matt Smith, and more. Anton’s painting Boulders, Brush and Sage is one of numerous Western pieces in the show, and it depicts a group of three cowboys on horseback. In describing the work, Anton says, “Northern Arizona cattle ranges are often rough, rocky and full of brush-choked drainages. [There are] wonderful opportunities to experience men and horses traveling up and down cut-banks in the fading light.” In his still life Wildlife, Acheff displays a

Native American pot and several small carvings around its base. “The Native Americans have always looked upon wildlife with respect and admiration. Animals have been depicted in drawings and paintings on pottery and in carved stone, wood and bone,” he says. “Animals have been revered for their strength and power as well as for food and clothing. Fetishes were created of a specific animal to give the bearer strength, power, long life,
wisdom, cunning, endurance, etc.” Need Another Plate by Buckland is an outdoor scene featuring two campers cooking over a fire with a plane landing on the water in the background. “Most of my work is from the nostalgic-romantic corner of my imagination. I’m very pleased that the results are appreciated by both men and women, just as both have always found real enjoyment in the great outdoors,” he shares.

Canadian artist Browne’s work The Silo is another that will be on view in the exhibition. “This painting is a typical Ontario farm scene,” he describes, “and my goal with this painting was to capture the feel of the various textures depicted in the various materials used in constructing the buildings and structures.”
Sueellen Ross, As Good As It Gets, mixed media, 9½ x 12½"
Ross’ As Good As It Gets is a mixed-media painting done in Indian ink, watercolor and colored pencil showing man’s best friend in a state of rest. She shares, “As Good as It Gets gathers all the ingredients necessary for the perfect late-afternoon siesta—a heat source (fireplace?), a comfy bed, a favorite toy. Somewhere in the background is a dedicated
dog lover, probably fixing dinner.” Summer Rendezvous, which will be on view from June 1 to 30, will include approximately 30 pieces. Fo r a d i re c t l i n k to t he e x h i b it i n g g a l l e r y g o to w w w. we ste r n a r tc o l le c to r. c o m
