Modern

Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 In December of 2007, the Federal Government signed into law the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007. The stated purpose of the Act is â&#x20AC;&#x153;to move the United States toward greater energy independence and security to increase the production of clean renewable fuels, to protect consumers, and to create more energy efficient products, especially lightingâ&#x20AC;?. More energy efficient product means greater energy savings for the consumer. The law requires roughly 25% greater efficiency for light bulbs phased in from 2012 through 2014. THIS WILL EFFECTIVELY BAN THE SALE OF MOST CURRENT INCANDESCENT LIGHT BULBS. Under the law, current incandescent bulbs that produce 310-2600 lumens of light will in effect be phased out between 2012 and 2014. Bulbs outside this range (roughly light bulbs currently less than 40 watts or more than 150 watts but less than 310 watts) are exempt from the ban.
