walnut bench
This bench was inspired in the Sam Maloof Leather Laced Bench. It’s made of Walnut. This project was part of the Furniture Making Workshop offered in Spring 2021. It took one month to be completed. It consists of fourteen pieces that were connected with mortise and tenon joints. The process started with laser cutting the fourteen pieces of the actual scale with acrylic sheets. The walnut piece was measured and cut to the individual pieces. Followed by the planer and jointer to make sure all surfaces were 90 degrees. When all pieces were ready and correctly cut into its form, the process of the joints started. Domino joints were utilized to connect the upper rails. All the joints that connected legs and upper rail were made by hand with a set of chisels and a mallet. The top joints are wedged and secured with glue. Various coats of walnut oil were utilized to finish the bench and leather laced to provide a sitting support.

prospect + r e fu g e
Prospect and Refuge was a project of ARCH 274. The project was located in Allerton Park, Monticello, Illinois. It consisted in exploring various partis in 2D and 3D while creating a space for Prospect and Refuge. Rhythm and Translucency were part of the concept design. The creation of three different spaces for the users to experience prospect and refuge while being inside the structure was the goal. To provide different experiences, while utilizing the same concept, wooden panels were utilized in different ways to create a sophisticated yet inviting building.
