Stress and Anxiety
One of the most commonly cited benefits of aromatherapy is its ability to reduce stress and anxiety. A number of studies have found that certain essential oils can have a calming effect on the body, helping to reduce feelings of anxiety and promote relaxation.
For example, a 2018 study published in the Journal of Evidence-Based Integrative Medicine found that inhaling lavender essential oil reduced anxiety in patients undergoing cardiac surgery. Similarly, a 2013 study published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine found that inhalation of bergamot essential oil reduced anxiety in patients awaiting minor surgery.
These studies suggest that aromatherapy may be a useful tool for managing stress and anxiety, but it's important to note that more research is needed to confirm these findings.
