SOURCE REHABILITATION CENTER PROJECT TYPE: HEALTHCARE SITE LOCATION: 380 Dwight St., Holyoke, Massachusetts +/- 52,000 Sq. Ft. OBJECTIVE: To create a safe and peaceful natural environment that encourages healing for individuals seeking recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. SOURCE explores the design and programming of a rehabilitation center, serving both inpatient and outpatient types. Created in-order to help bridge the gap between a holistic and science based approach to treatment. The design is a crucial contributor to the users overall health and long term recovery. SOURCE serves as a safe space for individuals to open up about the difficulties they’ve experienced. DESIGN CONCEPT: Drawn from the chosen site’s location on the Connecticut river. While preserving the exterior industrial architecture, biophilic design takes over various interior spaces as a key design feature that allows nature to directly take part in the healing process for the primary users. Direct connections to nature leave positive impacts on primary users.

PROGRAMMING : It’s incredibly important to incorporate various areas for the primary users to build and create healthy new habits. SOURCE offers different areas in which primary users can preform a number of activities that range from more active to less active, both individually and in bigger groups.

2ND LV. INDOOR POOL CAUSE AND EFFECT DESIGN: Often times, drug and alcohol addicts who are in recovery will turn to smoking as an alternative to help pass the time when they are fighting a craving. Each floor of SOURCE is designed with ample outdoor space that offers beautiful views of the Connecticut River with designated smoking areas. With an extremely spacious outdoors, primary users can spread out or gather in small groups for socializing. Creating a choice for the primary user in all aspects of their recovery was a critical consideration for this project.

HAPPY HEMPS CBD RETAIL STORE PROJECT TYPE: RETAIL STORE OBJECTIVE: To design a natural space where users feel comfortable to explore with an open mind and ask the staff questions about holistic healing and CBD product information. The entrance cafe draws customers in with a familiar and relaxed setting and then expands out and up onto the second level with clean and simple branded CBD products. DESIGN CONCEPT: Applying the themes of natural and transparency to the store design, sustainable materials were chosen in order to create a healthier environment. The soft green color palette was derived from the hemp plantchoosing a soft shade of green to represent it’s healing properties. These types of chemicals interfere with our body’s natural ability to heal itself and go against what HAPPY HEMPS stands for. All of the products are made with the most natural ingredients found within nature. By placing a cafe at the store front that offers both regular and CBD infused items, the customer’s curiosity can easily become peaked and encourage them to explore the rest of the store.

NORTHERN LIGHTS CHILDREN’S LIBRARY PROJECT TYPE: COMMERCIAL LIBRARY SITE LOCATION: Chapeau, New York DESIGN CONCEPT: The inspiration for this library comes from the beautiful Northern Lights phenomena; the Aurora Borealis. This luminous display of lights contains a variation of soft colors that were translated into the design through the selection of materials and color application. Expanding upon this idea even further, other sky phenomena imagery were incorporated throughout the space which help create an overarching theme of light displays found throughout the universe. This concept and design encourages kids to expand their knowledge beyond the surface level and dive deep out into the unknown. The space itself is extremely playful and allows for various activities to take place such as storytelling and work spaces that are customized to each age groups needs. There are various places in which kids are able to interact with their surroundings through the inclusion of interactive walls and a second storytelling interactive installation space upstairs that contains even more imagery of Earth and natural phenomenons.

LUXURY RESIDENCE APARTMENT DUPLEX PROJECT TYPE: RESIDENTIAL APARTMENT DUPLEX LOCATION: LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA CLIENT PROFILE: This apartment duplex was created for a lovely couple located in the heart of Los Angeles. Mr. & Mrs. Carson are the owners of one of the largest art and sculpture galleries located right in the heart of Los Angeles. Both Mr. and Mrs. Carson enjoy living a life of luxury and comfort and requested the space to feel like a lush escape from the city. They enjoy spaces that feel moody and timeless with clear connections to nature through design elements and an abundance of live plants. While they do enjoy patterns, the couple prefers to add depth and contrast to their space by layering textures and adding elegant details with luxurious materials and finishes. They love modern interiors and are attracted to spaces that play with light and dark.

DESIGN CONCEPT: This luxury apartment duplex was created as a lavish space for two creative individuals to come and relax after a long day of work. Keeping a neutral color palette allows for the couple to become the art within their own space by expressing themselves through colorful clothing, accessories, and collected art. The apartment was designed to feel minimalist and serene in order to achieve a calming, spa-like feeling within the primary bedroom and adjacent foyer connecting space. The connecting primary bathroom explores the usage of other natural materials like stone and marble. The intentional pop of black marble helps to create a strong contrast of colors in the room. A TOUCH OF GREEN: Brining in nature was highly requested by the client but is also something I always encourage new clients to try out in any space that has access to sunlight. The trees are used as a relief from the surrounding neutral tones of the space. Incorporating trees and plants into the bedroom will also serve to purify and clean the air in a room where they spend over 6-8 hours everyday.

SUNY COLLEGE OF OPTOMETRY MEDICAL COLLEGE LEARNING CAMPUS PROJECT TYPE: HEALTHCARE SITE LOCATION: 33 W 42nd St., New York, NY DESIGN CONCEPT: This space was designed to feel calming and inviting through the use of complimentary colors and organic materials. By using strong differentiation in color and brightness our team was able to create strategic way finding paths. OBJECTIVE: This project was completed as part of a summer experiential learning course at NYSID. Myself, along with a team of 12 other MFA students, worked on new floor plans as well as the overall design concept for the preexisting space of the SUNY College of Optometry located in New York City. The board of the school, as well as the staff, were extremely impressed by our work and have decided to move forward with our proposed plans. This project emphasized the importance of team work and taught me how much can be accomplished with a dedicated team of people.

THE HEALING CENTER CANCER TREATMENT CENTER PROJECT TYPE: HEALTHCARE OBJECTIVE: The Healing Center is a healthcare facility in which various types of cancer patients can come for both typical and alternative forms of treatment. This healing center was made to feel like anything but an institutional place through a Japanese inspired design and spatial layout that allows for easy circulation and a clear understanding of private , semi-private, and public areas. DESIGN CONCEPT: Through Japanese design influence and a nature inspired color palette, this healthcare space feels warm and welcoming. A variation of Japanese inspired shoji screens were incorporated along with patterns and textures that resemble Japanese art. The materials were carefully selected in order to ensure that they can withstand the standard cleaning protocols of a healthcare facilities from day to day.

CHEMOTHERAPY INFUSION ROOM MATERIALS

Typical infusion treatments can take many hours, making it extremely important to design a space that people can feel at ease in for any given period of time. Each chemotherapy infusion room is equipped with extra seats for family and friends.

LOWER LEVEL COMMERCIAL HOTEL PROJECT TYPE: HOSPITALITY / HOTEL SITE LOCATION: SAINT PAUL HOTEL, MONTREAL, QUEBEC DESIGN CONCEPT: The concept for this hotel design was inspired by Reso, Montreal’s very own “Underground City.” Reso is a fully enclosed subterranean city that contains various shops and housing opportunities for locals. The hotel design was influenced from various elements contained in this underground city mixed with a more literal interpretation of what it means to be below the surface level of the Earth. The space includes materials that are reminiscent of colors and textures seen in natural caves and man-made tunnels. Playing with light and shadow was carefully considered throughout the design of the hotel, calling attention to the moments of light and dark seen in underground tunnels and various parts of Reso. Certain spaces of the hotel will be designed to purposefully feel as if they are located below ground - or somewhere below street level. DESIGN AESTHETIC: The overall design will be sleek and moody - mixing reflective and modern materials with textures and elements that are reminiscent of natural forms and colors. Adding pops of shades of pink helps to electrify the space and bring it everything to life.

LOWER LEVEL HOTEL PARTI:

LV. 2FLOOR PLAN

This hotel’s parti draws upon underground architecture and tunnel design. It plays with the idea of some spaces feeling more compressed and others feeling extremely open and large. Both types of spaces express a sense of rhythm through the repetition of pattern and form created through numerous architectural elements.

VESTIBULE LOOKING IN RECEPTION / CHECK-IN NAVIGATING LEVEL 1: Including subway grates with integrated lighting helps bring a realistic piece of underground architecture into the Lower Level’s design. It is used both as an integrated design feature as well as lighting. It is a key design feature that highlights the reception desk and is brought up onto the ceiling to further emphasize the lobby and it’s circulation path. Using various shades of concrete adds a simple feature that helps keep the clean and crisp feeling of Lower Level amidst the various gridded pattern.

LOWER LEVEL EXECUTIVE SUITE PROJECT TYPE: HOSPITALITY / HOTEL SITE LOCATION: SAINT PAUL HOTEL, MONTREAL, QUEBEC DESIGN CONCEPT: The executive suite room in Lower Level was designed to mimic some of the colors and patterns found within the main hotel’s overall design and parti of underground architecture and design. Having a bold pop of pink gives the space a modern edge and provides a bold contrast from the darker shades of concrete. It was designed to feel minimal yet comfortable and cozy - almost as if you were staying in a luxury hotel inside a cave or underground.

THE BENDS DINNING TABLE + CHAIRS SET PROJECT TYPE: FURNITURE DESIGN DESIGN CONCEPT + INSPIRATION: This set of dining table and chairs was inspired by the curves and natural bends a river creates as it moves and flows down stream. Working with metal for the main structure of the chairs and table enabled me to achieve effortless curves that create beautiful silhouettes when looking at this dining set from any angle. Having a ribbed glass table top allows the people seated at the table to see the beautiful metal work of the table legs almost through a similar lens as if they were looking down at a river trying to see the rocks below the water surface. Paired together or displayed separately, this dining table and chairs make a perfect, sculptural, statement piece for any home.

HAND DRAWING SKETCHING + PAINTING The following pieces have been completed over a number of years and show my ability to sketch and draw in various mediums. I have always been extremely invested in the creative arts world, but I was unsure of what I wanted to do for a career. Dabbling in various types of art and creative mediums has strengthened my overall sense of design and color. Through my art and architectural studies, I have been able to grow a wide knowledge of difference styles of arts, artists, and architecture that allows me to better communicate ideas.

PHOTOGRAPHY EXPERIMENTAL WORK These images are apart of a photography project I completed during my undergraduate studies that show a creative and experimental approach to art that I want to translate into my design career. Both an experimental project and a color study, this series encouraged me to really examine the way light and shadow effect a space and an image.
