MUSKOKA — A public meeting date for a Muskoka island planning application has been set. Summer Valentine, dsignificant public interestirector of planning for the District of Muskoka, said the regional government had already witnessed in a development proposal for Langmaid’s Island in Lake of Bays. Preliminary details about the application had come to the district planning and economic development committee meeting in April for information only. Valentine said no decisions had been made yet on the file. The 147-acre island and its two mainland properties sit in Lake of Bays. The application proposed 36 residential lots each with a minimum lot area of two acres and a minimum lot frontage of 469 feet, according to a district report. The report noted the application proposed 20 parking spaces for the Block A mainland property and 110 parking spaces for the Block B mainland property. “Langmaid’s Island contains an abandoned cottage, boathouse and associated outbuildings and is currently well vegetated with mature mixed forest cover with several substantial cliffs and rock barren areas as well as two natural sand beaches,” stated the report.

“The public meeting is a critical step where we get a better understanding of the community’s concerns, challenges or things they like about the application,” said Valentine.
