CAMBRIDGE POINT PARK Cambridge, Maryland February 2016 Kim Jacobs, ASLA Nicholas Martinazzi, ASLA Cambridge Point Park, a waterfront park designed to accommodate for rising sea levels and storm surge, is a destination venue that provides opportunities for a wide range of community events. I designed a space that incorporates low-impact development techniques and introduces space for economic and social growth. An overhead structure throughout the space provides shade and unifies the entire site, allowing for food trucks and other activities. The main lawn is a perfect festival space, and is located adjacent to a three-season water feature that converts to an ice rink in the winter. A series of terraced wetlands with native plantings creates an absorptive edge, allowing for inundation as sea levels rise and as natural disasters become more frequent.

ROUSE WATERFRONT Cambridge, Maryland February 2016 Kim Jacobs, ASLA Nicholas Martinazzi, ASLA Our overarching goal for Jim Rouse Waterfront Park is to create a destination venue that will introduce social & economic opportunities as downtown Columbia becomes urbanized. Our park is named in honor of James Rouse, the original founder of Downtown Columbia in 1967. I believe the waterfront venue will be an integral part of the downtown community in the years to come. My design aims to restore Rouse’s original vision for a denser, urbanized, pedestrianfriendly, and accessible city. I also see this design as a unique opportunity to engage with the historic Frank Gehry building. My major design goals include: accommodating large & small events throughout the year, increasing seating capacity, and harnessing the existing beauty of the site to conserve successful elements.

UPTON REVITILIZATION West Baltimore, Maryland December 2015 Kim Jacobs, ASLA Jack Sullivan, PLA, FSLA My senior urban design studio project, involving the revitalization of an under-served comunity in West Baltimore opened my eyes to the drastic socio-economic differences that exist within our cities and inspired me to become involved in affordable housing and public space design. Through this project, I learned the importance of the universal right to a safe and well-programmed urban landscape environment. Exploring issues such as population density, large-scale vacancies, food deserts, and affordable housing inspired me to push the boundaries of design possibilities. My focus during this project was the creation of a co-housing community as a modern alternative to traditional affordable housing. In a co-housing community, members own or rent individual units but also share common amenities. These amenities may include washers and dryers, a larger kitchen, day care services, exercise rooms, and guest bedrooms. Central green space is an important unifying amenity within the community. Co-housing is affordable, promotes social relationships, and is tailored to the needs of the individual community. I received positive feedback from West Baltimore community members, who believed co-housing can be implemented in a currently vacant two-block stretch of Upton.

ALBA ROSA POCKET PARK Silver Spring, Maryland September 2015 Kim Jacobs Darsie Cahall Denchfield Landscaping Inc. Alba Rosa Park is a pocket park I designed in collaboration with Denchfield Landscaping Inc. As part of an internship experience. The park will be built adjacent to a new apartment building for both resident and public use. My role in the project was to design the mulched dog park area, re-work existing paving around a central fountain, and develop a planting palete. The greatest constraint this project posed was a very limited budget, which forced me to consider plant and hardscape material particularly carefully. I chose materials that create seasonal interest throughout the year, and which require minimal maintenance.

DIGITAL RENDERING Annapolis, Maryland

January 2016 Kim Jacobs Campion Hruby Landscape Architects At Campion Hruby Landscape Architects, I was responsible for producing graphics necessary for ASLA award submissions and for CHLA’s website. Five out of six award submissions received ASLA Merit Awards at the 2016 ASLA Awards Banquet. I use computer programs including Sketchup, Vectorworks, InDesign, and Photoshop, to render axonometric plans, site plans, and perspective drawings. I furthermore learned a great deal about working in an office as a member of a collaborative team.
