PROPOSITUM

Despite many great buildings brought to this world, the majority of places still have endless amounts of spaces for improvement. It is a never-ending cycle, yet it is in our hands to make this world as beautiful, functional, and green as possible. I am passionate about many areas of architecture, design, and art due to the main reason behind it - to improve lives and use of spaces. Architecture and design are connected to every part of our existence, from our daily routine to psychology, from the way we communicate within the building to the overall lifestyle of the city. We are the creators, the users, and the observers. I am perfectionist by nature, so, for me, every detail is important. It also forces me to quickly find solutions and learn new skills. I have also lived in quite different environments throughout my life - from small villages and cities in Finland, to Western and Eastern Europe, to Dubai. My life and family brought me understanding and skills of woodworking, building, handiwork, painting, photography, sewing, farming, and much more. While my passion for technical skills helps me to improve fast to create even more complicated tasks. My university brought me the understanding of the past, the ritual of living throughout thousands of years and the connection with nature. Altogether every skill I have ever learnt has been helping me to create thoughtful, functional. and meaningful projects.

ACADEMY

The main intention behind my thesis was to completely reinvent education system all over the world by creating specialty schools, where location and subjects are interconnected. This particular academy is located in a historical park near a small town. The area dictated the areas of study: sports, history, architecture, and arts. Unusual structure - desruction of the past typical school buildings and connecting the ruin with the new. The "old" is done in concrete with brass connecting the new, which is done in timber. Current academy also has on campus living, where teachers and students of various ages live together in appartments. This maintains trusted 'family' relations and decreases bullying.

All building are multi-purpose, which can turn into a resort, offices, summer camps, co-working spaces and so on. Their spaces don't limit the functions, but expand them in a usual manner. Studio has the middle space for thinking and 'loneliness'. Yet, at the same time for the separate interaction with others.

Since brass is not strong enough to withstand the structure, it is used as a idea element, implemented in the selfstanding structure.

Meanwhile, it is an element for thought, giving opportunity to question its placement and to "rebuild" the original map in the unique mind of each user. Elements of the ruin also create unique spaces around the building, which merges the 'prohibited" behavior in typical schools with the "normals" of the academy. Spaces behind the columns to hide from the others, yet eliminated by lights. Reading nooks on the ruins of "the past system". Interactive walls for art freedom and a freedom of speech. see-through windows in between the spaces. Eliminating movement laws of closed classrooms, children automatically eliminate the self-need to escape and misbehave.

the “important place” - the key idea The site is located in the centre of Moscow along one of the main circular roads of the city. It is a group project, intended to create a residential area, in which each member creates one or few residential buildings, interconnected with each other. My territory ended up being Eastern side of the square. After a deep analysis I decided to create two 5 and 6-story buildings with roof gardens and an integrated idea of the narrow hallways. They are located at the crosswalks and the heavily used walking areas for entering the quarter. Each building provides luxury - level apartments based on location. However, each floor and building has a mix-class community as well, depending on the location of the particular apartment, sunlight level, floor, neighbour privacy, noise levels and the size of the unit. Design heavily influenced by the neighbouring buildings, integrating similar height, composition and materials.

The ground floor of both buildings provides visually semi-hidden residential entrances with outdoor area, which can be closed by a extending fence at night to create a safe place. The rest are commercial places, such as co-working, a book-cafe, a coffeeshop, a cafe, and a beauty salon.

Originally inspired by construction containers, I thought of how small spaces, elevated above the ground can be integrated into the small spots of land all over the city. Such light and simple structures give the freedom for personal decor integration into the design of the overall buildings. Therefore, the actual use of the space by local vintage market/food market, outdoor cafe, or temporary exhibitions automatically creates the unique character of each structure.

THE OASIS

Another project dedicated to the expanding use of the “dark corners” and creating interactive spaces, which connect not only humans with humans but also humans and nature. Downstairs is an open area, allowing people to find a peaceful corner in the city. Upstairs is connected to the building itself, which can be either a private “garden” for the residential building or a hotel or a part of public space. It can be completed by various sitting areas, an exhibition by a local artist, or an indoor cafe with an outdoor walking area. Trees provide shaded areas throughout the day, while also adding a natural element to the view from the windows above.

MANIFESTO

This portfolio is put together to show a more creative side of me. Since the technical drawings and building regulations differ in every country, I decided to leave it out of this book. Every project can be slightly adjusted according to laws, great engineers will always find solutions to bring great ideas to the physical world. All the projects in the REIMAGINED part of this portfolio are not a part of the university projects, but solely personal. Therefore there are many more, which didn't make it into this book, but hopefully will be brought to life one day. Maybe, the main point of the existence of humanity is to improve as much as humanly possible. I strive to be a part of it.
