Domestic Violence – many have no knowledge of this terminology. However, many secretly live with it. Because the offensive occurrences have become the norm, in most cases, the abused hasn’t the slightest inkling as to what they are even experiencing. Usually it takes an outsider to educate them on their situation and still the abused don’t grasp the seriousness of the crime which is why they get severely hurt or become a statistic. It’s imperative that any and all incidence be reported to your local law enforcement because documentation will increase your chances of getting the necessary assistance. When reporting the occurrences, DON’T think with your heart because your omissions will only hurt YOU!!! Also remember, there are statute of limitations.
Domestic Violence is fierce and has several phases: Honeymoon/Fantasy and Planning phase Set – up phase Tension build up phase Guilt phase
Although friends and family will tell you to exit that abusive relationship because they’re concerned about your well-being, leaving an abuser is not something that’s easily done – especially if assets and/or children are involved. The abused are often misunderstood by those who are looking in from the outside and why?
Domestic Violence needs to end and it starts with educating EVERYONE!
Emotional abuse/Control phase Physical abuse phase

Starting over can be a scary thought. I mean who wants to go through anything twice? I don't. Once is generally enough for me unless, we talking BBQ, then I'm probably gonna over do it. But, who wants to date again after being married so long? Dating? Eeuuww! The butterflies, the doubt, just the whole process. Meeting new people. Figuring out how to date with a job and kids. I mean who wants to start over??? Nobody. Who wants to move to another state? House hunting, paperwork, utility deposits‌ uugghhhh. But, we all do things we must, in order to better ourselves, heal ourselves, or possibly, save ourselves‌
Every fall the leaves fall from the tree, petals fall from the flower. Everything just stops growing. No pretty green trees or colorful fragrant flowers. But, in the ending of one season, another season rapidly approaches. It is starting over. See starting over is in the original design of things. Things can't stay the same forever, or rather they don't. Life, death, and consequences cause change every moment. Starting over can be looked at as a renewal of sorts. Renewing your faith in yourself and your ability to start again. To build, to focus, to Renew. Beginning again is not a burden but a relief. Showing the world you are still a force to be reckoned with. So, hello world, I am still here. Welcome to our renewal, our starting over. We've missed you all.

East Detroit: An Urban Experience
By Alex Jex and Jose Madera Some believe in luck, I believe in fate. I moved here 4 years ago and it has been a tremendous experience to say the least. Life in NY started getting too expensive and I was tired of moving from room to room so I grabbed a small nest egg I had and took a friends advice to come and visit Detroit. It pained me to leave my daughter and wife behind, but I knew this was what I had to do and the dangers of the area were not a good place for them. Plus, the fear my wife had for Detroit was a huge issue. This was not gonna keep me from chasing my dreams of owning my first home and starting my own business, so she became my ex wife and I packed most of my belongings, headed for The Motor City.
Urban Detroit
East Detroit is not to be taken lightly by any means. The area is predominantly African American with few whites and Hispanics spread around. There is a level of violence and poverty here of which I have never before seen, yet there is an under current of respect and brotherly love that was actually quite shocking and all together foreign to me. One of my first experiences was walking to the corner store only to be greeted by four small children, one little girl was crying because all of the kids had their candy and she had lost her quarter. Luckily, I had one in my pocket to replace the one she’d lost. The smile she gave, through her tears, warmed my heart, yet made me sad at the same time. Just to think of all the statistics that these young children were born under by living in such a poverty, crime stricken environment. There are roughly 28,000 homeless people in the City of Detroit and a high illiteracy rate among adults, which adds to the vicious cycle of poverty and street life. Fate would have it that a trip to NY for my birthday presented me with a childhood sweetheart I had not seen since the age of 16. She is now my current girlfriend. We have been through so much together these past four years and live together here with our 120 pound blue American bully named Max. It certainly helps that she was raised in the Bronx and lived in East Harlem. Fate has a way of making things right. I learned to follow my heart and this led me to my destiny. The first night there, Lex heard a series of gun shots, rolled off the bed and hit the deck. It just so happened, it was my neighbor, across the street, shooting a possum that had wandered into his yard. I couldn’t help but laugh, although it wasn’t funny to her at all. Still it was good to know she knew what to do in case of a shootout. My other neighbor was shot at the corner store on Thanksgiving eve and had to wear a colostomy bag for an entire year before he got his bowels connected again. Sadly, he was never shown not even one mugshot by the detectives in charge of his case. This is what contributes to much of the problems in Detroit. Most murderers never get caught and are free to continue to rob and mob through out the city. On a good note, the state of Michigan is an open carry state that allows its citizenry to arm themselves against these armed thugs. There is a new mayor, Mike Duggan, has begun the painstaking process of removing the blighted homes contributing to most of this crime and violence. Trap houses are illegal drug dens dotting countless blocks through out the city. They are all guarded by heavily armed thugs as they are susceptible to robbery at all times. Homes here have alleys running through the backs of them and are writhed with vegetation and undergrowth, so the police and volunteers go thru out the city clearing out the areas near schools or within walking distance of schools to protect the children from hidden dangers and people who dwell in such areas. There are also many block clubs that help clean the neighborhoods and provide nightly patrols. Detroit, in a nutshell, is at the beginning stages of gentrification, meaning Detroit will receive a much needed renovation. We believe this to be a fresh start that will enable Detroit to prosper. God lives here. Detroit is a flower in its budding stage, ready to show off its hidden beauty.
