Welcome to the latest KSA Magazine. Many things happen behind the scenes with government bodies, associations and other stake holds within Kinesiology. As well as providing the best possible Kinesiology courses and training, KSA also fights for your rights as a Kinesiologist when we believe these groups get it wrong. Recently Parijat Wismer from the Byron Bay and Gold Coast campuses successfully fought hard to reverse a push for Kinesiologists not to be allowed to use supplements or nutrition in their balances. I would like to say a big thank you to Parijat for the time and knowledge she provided to help these decision makers understand that Kinesiology is holistic and that although we do not prescribe, we do offer food and supplements as a balancing option. At least once every five years every Registered Training Organisation goes through an audit with the training authority. A year or so ago the training authority changed from the state based ATQF to the national based authority the ASQA. This meant changes to requirements and other things. The authority also upgraded the Kinesiology Certificate qualification and there are changes to come for the Diploma qualification. New changes and upgrades mean changes in course material and in the way things are done and recorded. Therefore KSA, and every other training organization must adjust and comply. These changes are not optional, they are compulsory and must be met by students and colleges. So what does this mean to students? New Certificate IV students will have some new units added. Existing students must have all their assessments completed by a particular date or you will have to transfer to the new course. Contact your campus to find out when you must be completed. We have no flexibility if you are not completed by that date. Diploma students have a few changes to what is required but it is minimal at the moment but there are some. Contact your college for more information. In the future there will be more changes so I suggest people to get stuck into the Diploma now and not wait another year or two. Don’t put it off. Recently all KSA principals and Dr Bruce Dewe gathered in Melbourne to discuss the above changes. Thank you to all directors and principals for your co-operation and friendly attitudes. It was an enjoyable and productive day. May you all have a prosperous future in Kinesiology. Yours In Health,

KSA Graduate Spotlight Megan Williams How did you come to study Kinesiology? I noticed a Touch For Health workshop notice in my local paper. I was still very curious about what kinesiology was, so I signed up to do the course. After day one, I knew my life was about to change in an amazing way. That workshop lead me on a journey of self discovery, which I am pleased to say, continues to this day! I have since studied Touch for Health, a few 3 in 1 Concepts modules (in Brisbane) and the ICPKP Diploma at the KSA Hervey Bay campus. Tell us about your business? How do you help people in your clinic? I opened my clinic in Bundaberg in February this year. It got off to a fairly slow start after all the flooding and re-building, but now it's happily chugging along with word of mouth referrals being my greatest source of new clients. My main focus in my clinic is to teach and explain to my clients about their energy system and what kinesiology is and how it can help them. It is very important to me that they understand what is happening with their body during the process, as this is something I lacked during my first experience and most of my clients are new to this therapy also. I also offer other therapies, including remedial and relaxation massage, along with hot stone massage. I am developing a new massage style that combines massage and kinesiology 4
together and plan to teach other massage therapists this new style in the future. A number of massage clients comment on the uniqueness of my approach and tell me that the treatments last a lot longer than traditional massage styles. Most of my massage clients are then converted to using kinesiology as they start to become aware of their body, and that their pain and tension is being caused by other stuff that massage just doesn't completely eliminate. What is your biggest success as a Kinesiologist? My biggest success as a Kinesiologist would be the completion of my Diploma and the opening of my clinic. I feel so proud to have finally reached that goal. It took a bit longer than I anticipated with the birth of two children in between all the courses and study, but I eventually made it with the attitude of 'just keep doing what you've got to do - bit by bit'. Another success that comes to mind is all my clients. I just love being able to help people to feel better. Better about themselves, their life and any number of things they've been to see me for. I feel truly blessed to be in a position to serve others and share all that I can in each and every session.

WHAT IS KINESIOLOGY And Why Is It So Special Danny Liddell, Principal of KSA Brisbane Campus
WHAT IS KINESIOLOGY and Why Is It So Special Often I am asked, “what is Kinesiology?” or “how can it help my problem?” Another question on peoples lips is “how do you pronounce it?” Let’s start there as it’s an EASY one. How to pronounce Kinesiology? Kin – EASY – ology. effective too!
See it’s easy …. And
As Kinesiology has such a broad variety of ‘styles’ (also known as modalities), the other questions are not quite as simple. For now I will start with a brief history, then explain a little about the philosophies so you have a bit of an understanding. Where Does Kinesiology Come From? Let us take a sneak peak at where Kinesiology originated. Varieties of basic muscle testing have existed for quite a long time. People like Florence & Henry Otis Kendall wrote their first edition of a book for Physiotherapists in 1949. An updated version of this manual is still available today.
My Motto in life: BETTER HEALTH IS A BETTER QUALITY OF LIFE 6
From my understanding Dr George Goodhart used this book as inspiration for his research and development that started the phenomenon that has bought Kinesiology to where it is today. Dr George Goodheart DC, an American Chiropractor, is the modern day father of Kinesiology. Dr Goodheart, like many other Chiropractors knew about basic muscle testing and used it in its very basic form. Thinking outside the square he was the first to realise the link between the muscles, the organs and the meridian system of the eastern philosophies. Dr Goodheart also discovered he could use muscle testing to instantly show whether his chiropractic adjustments had worked. He gathered a group of enquiring minds and together they researched and expanded on his findings. The knowledge base grew immensely. They quickly linked not just the meridian and organ systems to the muscles but many other systems such as the lymphatic system and vascular reflexes system amongst others. The magnificence was being unleashed. One of the brilliant minds involved in this research was Dr John Thie, author of the iconic book Touch For Health, who realised the importance of sharing some of these very effective methods with his clients and the general public. Although Dr Goodheart did not believe Kinesiology should be left in the hands of non-Chiropractors he allowed Dr Thie to
write the book. With open hands it was received by the general public, stimulating further research. Readers of Touch For Health wanted to know more so workshops were established to show people how to use these wonderful techniques. The workshop participants helped family and friends and then expanded into health clinics and researched some more. Kinesiology has now grown into this remarkable health care modality studied and researched around the world. Some of these wonderful researchers include Dr Bruce Dewe MD, the author of the Professional Kinesiology Programme (PKP); Dr Charles Krebs author of A Revolutionary Way Of Thinking; and Trevor Savage author of Learning To Learn – The Switched On Way, who was also responsible for bringing N.O.T. and Hyperton-X Sports Kinesiology to Australia. Today Kinesiology combines theories and knowledge from modalities such as Chiropractics, Acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Physiotherapy, Naturopathy, Nutrition and Counselling. All this enables a welleducated Professional Kinesiology Practitioner to work in an effective and truly holistic manner. The Basic Philosophy The TRIANGLE OF HEALTH is used by Kinesiologists to demonstrate or describe how the ‘being’ (whole person) should be if they are balanced and working effectively. For a healthy and happy existence the physical, bio-chemical and emotional sides of our life must be in harmony with one another, hence the term ‘holistic health care’, the whole person. Although the triangle of health is the accepted symbol of Kinesiology I believe it to be much too simplified, however it does make it easy for the general public and new students to gain an understanding. There are so many more aspects affecting good health that a Pyramid Of
Health is a much more appropriate symbol. A Pyramid Of Health would also include the spiritual, mental and environmental aspects of life. So what makes up these physical, biochemical and emotional sides of the triangle of health? The EMOTIONAL side is made up of things like how we feel (emotional), what we think (mental), what we want or don’t want etc. Everything we do has an emotional connection whether positive or negative. Our future responses will automatically be made dependant on our emotions and experiences of the past. The PHYSICAL side of health includes things such as our bones, muscles, joints, and organs etc. They are fed by and react to our nutrition and emotions. The CHEMICAL side is divided into two main areas, our nutrition and our environment. A Pyramid of Health would allow each of these two very important aspects to have their own category which they deserve. Nutrition includes the foods, liquids and supplements we consume. This nutrition can be beneficial to part of or all of our being. It may also have a negative effect. Our environment is extensive and involves what we use to wash ourselves with, our 7
clothes, kitchen products etc. The air, our families and the places where we live are also involved. It is actually quite extensive so I won’t list it all here.

WHY ATTEND A CONFERENCE, what’s in it for me? By Parijat Wismer - KSA Byron Bay - www.wellness.net.au
I have recently come back from a wonderful AKA National conference in Melbourne. I asked several people attending the question, Why did you decide to come to this event? Many answered with the same reasons as I have. If you haven't been to a conference or think that going once is enough...think again. 1. There is always something to learn from attending, from the presenters and from the people you meet over lunch or in the breaks. Amongst other content I learnt new things from 'Working with the Relationship Matrix' by Gordon Dickson, 'The Foundations of Fear' with a demo on how to work with these issues by Moira Dempsey, ( Moira is coming to Byron Bay teaching her 'Rhythmic Movement' and 'Facing the Fear' in 2014), 'Vaccine Toxicity' by Jenny Beazley, 'The Placental Chakra' by Hugo Tobar and the very scientific and precise presentation by Dr Charles Krebs on 'The Neurology of Muscle Function'. There were of course more presenters and to read about it all, get a Conference manual from Equilibrium Bookstore or simply spend some time at KSA Byron and read my copy! 2. Develop friendships in Australia and with people from overseas. I feel enriched by the new and renewed friendships with other practitioners They have grown from spending time together learning, and
enjoying the conferences and workshops. 3. Get recharged by spending time with likeminded people. Imagine spending time with another 150 people who are on the same wave length! Be part of the Kinesiology Field! 4. Stay informed about issues affecting our industry. By attending a discussion panel and the AGM of the Australian Kinesiology Association, I keep up-dated and aware of the growth and challenges facing our industry and modality. 5. Discover new books, products, courses. There is always a market place, books to look at and purchase, new products we can use as balancing options and new and interesting courses we can take to expand our knowledge. 6. A conference opens your mind to new things. We had an excellent presentation by Marrs Coiro on 'Going mobile', how we can keep our references and records safe and in the clouds! And have our reference books stored in one little iPad...with which we can also take photos for the files. One of my students has an app on her iPad that does a postural assessment before and after doing balances and emails it to the client...The mind boggles! 7. Be supported by your professional association. Bring your concerns or questions to a conference, you will find other participants and committee members willing to listen. 9
KINESIOLOGY AND PAST LIVES One Perception and an Experience Rowena Ritchie, Co-principal KSA Melbourne
As soon as one says "past lives" 50% of the population's eyebrows raise and the thoughts form, saying.. quack ...fruitcake... the eyeballs roll...immediately causing a loss of any potential interest in Kinesiology and all that it can do and bring to the awareness. Hence PKP™ uses non-specified time. The other 50% of the population will say...." fabulous stuff' ..and their eyes don't even blink ..they are fascinated. Always I feel it is important to remember this % so that when a client is in the room and age recession appears (beyond conception); to work with the client's belief system , (not the practitioner's ) This ensures the best results for all. Of course encouraging reflection of the past time , no matter how the client is viewing it (be it in their eyes a past life or a genetic memory, or other ) and assisting them to find the relevance to the present issue . An experience I had whilst having a Kinesiology session in Brisbane comes to mind whenever this topic arises. During the balance, non-specified age recession came up . My muscles indicated I had gone back to a time that would be of benefit to me to assist with supporting my goal which was about forming a relationship. (my history was short term relationships, which were the opposite of what I wanted.) The practitioner guided me to " just see what comes to mind ". Lo and behold, I had a very clear vision in my mind of a very small farming hamlet, possibly in Ireland, with stone walls harbouring an extended family .I 10
became aware of a girl, approx. 16 y.o. who had always lived with her family in this hamlet quite happily. She was to be married soon to a boy from another farming hamlet and it would mean she would be looking after that boy's family after her wedding day and would never be able to see her family again (whether that be distance or other matter wasn't clear ,so possibly not relevant). She wasn't at all happy about the impending circumstances. I discussed this with the practitioner and was encouraged to have a look at what that meant in relation to my goal. I thought perhaps in my memory somewhere, I don't want this to happen again. I don't want to lose my connection with my family, who I have always had a happy relationship and times with; and if I formed a relationship and committed to that ; I would lose all that I had known and loved! This to me was very significant and I have never forgotten that session. It remains a question for me as to whether this was a genetic memory; i.e. An ancestral experience that was initially stored in that 16 y.o's cellular memory. Then when she had children, it was passed through genes" down the line". Through time and under certain 'triggers" they could come to the fore as a way to promote survival .(Survival based on what has happened in the past and how did I survive then, with as little pain as possible) This then has the potential to affect a descendant (me) in present time-... OR was it a past life of my soul? OR something else
still? Did I watch a movie that affected or made an impression on me? Was it an emotional miasm? Ultimately for me, it doesn't matter either way. It was there as a memory/thought form/ vision and I was able to learn from it. The relevance today (over 10 years later now since the session) is that I am in a committed relationship, am happy and still have plenty of contact with my family. I have decided to add one of my clients’ experiences in non-specified age recession, as part of this fascinating area, especially for students learning these techniques. In a past premises, I had a big room with big arched green bordered windows, rather beautiful. I asked her what was crossing her mind. Our goal was to improve communication with her daughter. She immediately said this room and the arched windows reminded her of a ruin in war with big arched windows, in which, on opposing factions, she felt her daughter in that life had cut off her head. I said to her OK, what is the relevance to your goal in current time. She said she had remembered that life, so had always held the memory of the anger at her daughter! So we did what we needed to do at that time, then brought
her back to current time and on her next session, she reported she was communicating much better with her daughter having cleared that past life, in her words. I was thinking, hard to communicate when you don’t have a head! but as always kept my mouth firmly shut, and let the clients reality and beliefs tell their story. DO ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS HELP YOU LOSE WEIGHT? Evelin LIddell, Brisbane Campus
The body senses artificial sweeteners through the same mechanisms used to sense sugar Artificial sweeteners are substances which are used to imitate the taste of sugar in foods. People striving hard to lose weight and maintain normal blood sugar levels use artificial sweeteners to sweeten what they eat and drink. Diet drinks have gained much popularity in recent years. But do artificial sweeteners really help lose weight? It is surprising that various recent studies show that artificial sweeteners are anything but good news for weight loss. You may actually impede weight loss by using artificial sweeteners. According to the scientists, people who are trying to lose weight should be aware of the amount of artificially sweetened foods and drinks they consume daily. 12
In a study conducted by Drs Susan Swithers and Terry Davidson, two psychologists based at the Ingestive Behavior Research Center at Purdue University, rats were put in two groups. One group was given yogurt sweetened with glucose (equivalent to table sugar, containing 15 calories a teaspoon), and the other group was given yogurt sweetened with zero-calorie saccharin. The rats that had the saccharinsweetened yogurt consumed more calories, put on more weight, gained more body fat, and did not cut back on their calorie consumption in the longer term. Common artificial sweeteners are made out of materials such as aspartame, cyclamate, saccharide etc. The problem with taking these
non-caloric sweeteners is that the body senses them through the exact same mechanisms used to sense sugar when consumed. When you consume regular sugar, you will feel full after your meal. Your body sends signals to the brain for preparing the pancreas to start secreting insulin to remove the glucose from the blood stream. But when you take artificial sweeteners, the body still secretes insulin although there is no extra glucose added from them. Since there is no added glucose, the secreted insulin will remove what little blood glucose you have – leaving you with low blood sugar. This leads to food cravings. As a result, you feel hungrier, crave more sweets and end up overeating. Not only does the body release insulin, it will also release leptin. Insulin and leptin are the major hormones that regulate your metabolism. Over time, not only will your body release too much insulin, but also too much leptin. Leptin plays an important role in appetite control, metabolism and weight loss. Your body will become resistant to both insulin
Artificial sweeteners lower blood sugar levels and increase food cravings and leptin and eventually your body will not “hear” your body’s messages to stop eating. Your body will crave sweets and carbohydrates and start storing fat, setting you up for diabetes, high cholesterol and cardiovascular disease.

STUDENT CORNER: JOHN’S STORY By Frances Wellington - Kinesiology Schools Australia Graduate
John (named changed to protect his privacy) was a highly qualified professor in the field of engineering in his 50’s when he sought kinesiology sessions at my clinic during my first year of professional Kinesiology practice. John was in quite a bit of a rut, moderately depressed and in a state of extended grief after choosing to end his 18 year marriage. He was disillusioned with the demands placed upon him by his new love interest who lived interstate, and uninspired by the lack of challenges in his current contract job. He had fought hard to keep his marriage from going under, but couldn’t do it on his own, so he felt frustrated and perceived himself as a failure in every area of his life. Fortunately he had regained fulltime contract employment, so he was starting to adapt to life as a single man again. A very sensitive and gentle person, it was apparent to me he was very generous individual, a tireless worker and had a keen intellect. His marriage relationship had been the entire focus for his existence, so making the choice to end it was the hardest thing he had ever faced. After the marital separation he had hit an emotional rock bottom, going through a period of ‘wandering’ around the country for an extended period of time, somewhat aimlessly looking for meaning and purpose again in his life. Although he was living frugally, this was starting to erode his asset base. Establishing himself in Brisbane, through this employment he
had made a new friend his own age who had gone through a messy divorce as well about a decade earlier. They become close mates. This friend introduced him to the benefits of kinesiology, as this had successfully helped him to make improvements in his own life in previous months. In John’s own words “I feel like crap and I just can’t stand it any longer” was our starting point. He was drinking heavily most nights on his own, or commiserating with his friend and both becoming very drunk most nights. It was inevitable that this would affect his ability to maintain his employment if he allowed it to continue. He recognized he needed a fresh start, a 180 degree turnaround in attitude, and he still had retained some financial assets from his divorce. He desperately wanted to get back on top instead of being stuck in “no man's land”, and had no real concept of how to go about this, where to start. I asked John to paint me a picture of the “bee’s knees” of the lifestyle he truly and deeply desired... to just say whatever came to mind... to put it up there on a pedestal. After a bit of coaxing he grinned, thought “What the heck, why not?”, and did just that. In the longer term, he wanted a nice home, decent job with high pay, the right woman to share it with. So, our task was to define and sort out just one thing at a time, together using kinesiology and for him to do the homework and follow through on each task, expecting that some things will naturally feel new and uncomfortable to do, yet the results will put him in a place that was meaningful and beneficial to pursue. 15
The first major aspect we tackled was securing a property to live in that would become his new home base, so he wouldn’t fritter away his equity. This was achieved through defining his current and ongoing needs which would give him the flexibility to travel wherever in the world he chose to take up employment, and defining the nutritional and emotional support he needed to achieve this. And this was done, and ticked off the ‘to do’ list. Then we tackled his job prospects, using a map of the world in a fun way to just “pin the tail on the donkey” so-to-speak... and we located 2 places. His homework was to seek out opportunities in these locations. He did just this, and came up with a shortlist. I muscle tested the shortlist down to 2 options. He applied for both and was interviewed over the phone for the preferred contract. This went well so he was asked to fly to Melbourne for another interview. We decided he needed a new suit so he spent $500 to feel a “million bucks!” for this meeting. And this was done, and ticked off the “to do”
list... he got the very position he desired, organized his passport, and left Australia. He rented out his apartment. After 6 months he satisfied his probation and started his contract. That was 3 years ago. He is still doing exactly what he wants to do, and is earning a terrific income. I couldn’t be more pleased for John achieving these results. By engaging John’s enthusiasm in a playful manner it brought his imagination to the fore, and he was able to free himself of his despair long enough to recognize that he was, in fact a very desirable asset for a progressive Middle Eastern Government. As a first year Kinesiology practitioner I was astonished by the results we achieved together by following the protocols, looking at factors in detail, taking action, witnessing results. The Kinesiology process gave him the support he needed to get him to where he needed to go, and kick start his new life. He achieved his 180 degree turnaround with flying colours! • Clearer thinking • Gain ability to reduce stress rapidly • Become more flexible with greater range of movement • Gain more emotional resilience • Increase motivation • Enjoy better sleep • Improve organ and body system function • Create new healthy habits • improve co-ordination • Support better muscle tone • Slow down ageing
When people start exercising, they often begin with lots of motivation, only to discover that it is difficult to keep that momentum, unless they are empowered to take better care of themselves. The Chi-tonix system can empower the client through addressing the emotional connection to their condition as it is expressed in their muscle function.
Support can come from all sides of the Triad of Health. People involved in fitness, yoga, martial arts or dance will feel positive changes in their physical body. Progress shows through increased flexibility and coordination. This becomes a real motivator. A Kinesiologist can learn to work on a one-on one basis with clients and run classes at their clinic or health centre.
Chi-Tonix Energy Fitness is fun, practical and effective. It is a fusion of Kinesiology, Acupuncture principles, personal growth and New Biology Discoveries into cell behaviour. December 7-8 in Byron Bay. Investment $495, KSA students $450. www.wellness.net.au.

TRIPLE WARMER MERIDIAN John & Matthew Thie Touch For Health, A practical Guide to Natural Health with Acupressure Touch
The Triple Warmer Meridian takes the form of three “heats,” the heat of metabolism, maintaining body heat, and the heat of the “fight or flight” or life passions.

TERES MINOR
My adrenal glands are functioning at optimum levels My adrenal glands send and receive clear messages My thyroid gland regulates and is in balance with my other glands I feel physically stable and strong
Emotional Component What gets you hot, physically, mentally, spiritually or emotionally? What are you running from? What are you fighting? What paralyses you?
I relax, do my best and see the beauty in my life I am grounded, stay calm and am at ease with the bigger picture of my life I move beyond old limitations and allow myself to express freely and creatively
Are you always on the run? Are you constantly in fight or flight?
Fire Element The Fire Element can be represented by the image of the hot, red sun, giving both light and warmth. It is associated with all of life’s heat and passions, particularly with enthusiasm, vitality and “warm feelings.” The Wood Element provides the fuel for Fire and the Earth Element is formed from the ashes generated by Fire. The Metal Element is controlled by the intense heat of Fire which melts, purifies, and transforms Metal by forging it into a new and sturdy shape. Water controls Fire by tempering or quenching it.
